He was born in 1916 in the village of Yaroslavskaya in the Kuban in a family of teachers. He graduated with honors from the Maykop Forest College and was enrolled in the Leningrad Forest Technical Academy. Here he began to write. The first attempts were very successful. He was accepted into various literary circles and studios. Literary activity did not prevent the Poor from learning to become an engineer in the water alloy of the forest. Before World War II he worked on the rivers of the North.
He was drafted into the Red Army in 1941 with the rank of junior lieutenant. He was appointed commander of a small platoon. In the summer of 1941, in fierce battles near Voronezh, he was surrounded, knew all the horrors of captivity. Demobilized in October 1945 also with the rank of second lieutenant.
Immediately after the war, he again went to the North to work in his specialty.
However, the future author of the story "Girls" did not forget about his love of literature. He writes a lot, is published in Komi in the republican newspaper "For the New North". In 1948 he made a sharp turn and entered the Literary Institute. His main activity was writing. Boris Poor was published in prestigious magazines - Spark, New World, Literary Newspaper.
In 1950, Boris married the girl Maria, who was much younger than him. They settled in a rental cottage in the suburbs, since Poor earned well by then. His career was rapidly going up. In 1951 he was admitted to the Union of Writers, taught at the Literary Institute, and conducted a seminar at the Higher Poetry Courses.
In 1976, in the sixtieth year of his life, he suddenly died.
The most famous work of the writer
Many wonderful works came out from under the pen of Boris Poor, but he was remembered as the author of the novel "Girls". It was published and reprinted in the USSR in thousand copies, became the favorite book of millions of Soviet citizens. Summary
The plot of the story is unpretentious. It tells about the seventeen-year-old girl Antonina, whom all affectionately call Tosya.
Tosya is an orphan, her parents died during the Great Patriotic War, and the girl was brought up in an orphanage in Voronezh. After graduation, she managed to work at the local state farm and as a housekeeper in a family of scientists. But, as Tosya herself put it, the work of the housekeeper “pulled her”, she felt “subhuman.” Therefore, "surprising scientists with her black ingratitude," she threw everything and left for the remote taiga northern village "to build communism."
Here Tosya was settled in a hostel with four girls. The main heroine of the story was entrusted with the difficult task - "to feed the hefty lumberjacks" - appointed as a cook. To the surprise of everyone, the small but agile and hardworking Tosya coped with the task perfectly. She not only prepared delicious rich cabbage soup and hearty porridge, but also followed the personal hygiene of workers, conveniently arranged a kitchen trailer.
At the first dance evening, Tosya attracted attention with a restive character. She flatly refused to dance with a guy who treated her with insufficient respect. In the village, there were 10 girls per guy, so this behavior of the "slow-witted Tosi" led everyone to bewilderment. And in order to punish the new one and prove his irresistibility, the first handsome man in the village (Ilya) argued on the hat with the first bully (Filet) that Tosya would fall in love with him.
Ilya made friends with Tosya, spent a lot of time with her and did not notice how he himself fell in love with this plain-looking girl with a big heart. Now he is afraid that she will find out about the dispute and will despise the "handsome". Tosya still finds out about the dispute and feels a "deadly" resentment. Ilya had a very long and persistent to seek forgiveness, but, in the end, peace is restored between the young people, because Tosya also managed to fall in love with a guy: "It’s not his fault that he was born beautiful!"

- ugly Nadezhda, who does not believe that she can really like someone, and is going to marry the elderly Ksan Ksanych out of hopelessness. Watching Tosi’s young love, Nadezhda won’t understand how this unpretentious girl managed to taunt the first guy in the village;
- Faith, which the young Tosya often does not understand: "Who will understand them, thirty-year correspondence students ..." Vera herself very well understands the direct and naive "whipped" Tosya. She discerned her humanity and resolutely took under her protection.
