Volgograd region is located in the southeast of Russia. The flag and coat of arms of the Volgograd region are designed to reflect its main historical and natural features. What characters are imprinted on them? What do the regional emblems of the region look like? We will talk about this in the article.
Coat of arms of the Volgograd region
The official symbols of the region reflect the most striking events in its history, as well as its main geographical features. The coat of arms of the Volgograd region was approved in 2000. It is a red French shield. At the bottom of it two horizontal blue stripes intersect, on all sides they are framed by thin white lines.
In the center of the shield is an image of a sculpture of Mother Motherland. It is part of an architectural ensemble dedicated to the Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad, which took place on the lands of the region. The victory in the Battle of Stalingrad allowed him to gain an advantage over Hitlerโs troops during World War II, and also forced him to start a retreat.
The red color of the background symbolizes heroism, courage and the struggle for oneโs land. The blue stripes on the coat of arms of the Volgograd region do not refer to its history, but to geography. The region crosses about two hundred rivers, but the main ones are the Don and Volga - the largest in the European part of the country.
There is also a formal form of the coat of arms. It includes framing the heraldic shield with a wreath of laurel leaves indicating victory. Below, golden ears of corn are woven into them, which speak of the development of agriculture. At the base is a red ribbon with the name of the area. Above the shield is a golden star, and beneath it is a windbreaker (heraldic crown) of six flowers of a tulip and a cornflower, which alternate among themselves.
Area flag
The flag of the Volgograd region was adopted in 2000. This is a rectangular canvas, the width and length of which relate to each other as 2: 3. The symbols of the flag completely repeat the emblem, only their location differs.
Two blue stripes designating Don and Volga are not placed horizontally. They are close to the pole and are on the left side of the panel. They are separated from each other by a distance equal to the width of one blue strip. They are also not framed by a white border. In the center, as well as on the coat of arms, is the image of Motherland.

In the past, it was called Tsaritsyn and Stalingrad. On his coat of arms is depicted a gold medal - symbolizing the status of a Hero city.
Coats of arms of the districts of the Volgograd region are very different, but all of them are dominated by blue, red, gold, silver and green. Let's take a quick look at some of them.
Dubovsky District
On the blue background of the Dubov coat of arms in the center is a golden oak. It is symmetrical, and its leaves are collected in constellations. To the right and left of the oak are plows, but only half of them. It seems that they emerge from the edges of the coat of arms.
On the bow of the boats is a cannon, as a symbol of the protection of the goods they carry. Under them is a yellow stripe. It denotes the Volga-Don-Volga reloading - a trade route that has existed for more than one century.
Ilovlinsky district
The running deer is depicted in gold on the coat of arms of the area. A golden arrow flies into his back. Under the legs of the animal is a wide wavy golden line, and a little higher - a thinner silver line.
The meaning of the coat of arms is quite simple. According to one version, the name of the area comes from the words "silt" and "fishing." The silt is depicted in the form of wavy lines, and fishing, that is, hunting is expressed as a deer and a flying arrow.
Gorodishchensky district
The shield of this coat of arms is painted blue. In the center is a silver eagle, which holds in its paws a golden fortress with five star-shaped bastions. Inside the contour, on a red background, there is a key and a sword crossed by ash - these are the personal attributes of Peter the Great, and the fortress was founded by him.
Above the bird are three golden flowers - three urban settlements. On the sides of the eagle are bunches of wheat ears, their number corresponds to the number of municipal centers. The eagle itself symbolizes superiority over evil forces and high spirit.
