Bamboo palm, or chamedorea, is a genus of plants belonging to the palm or areca family. She is unpretentious and shade-tolerant. Under natural conditions, a palm tree grows under taller trees. The name has Greek roots ("chamai" - low and "dorea" - a gift) and is associated with the easy availability of fruits hanging low above the ground.
The bamboo palm tree easily takes root in room conditions. It does not grow as fast as other members of this family. It can bloom, and even at a young age. Its flowers are small, reddish-orange or yellowish-cream, depending on the variety, nondescript, collected in panicled inflorescences. Leaves with long stalks (up to 60 cm), consisting of many lanceolate segments, are dark green. The truncated trunk has a bamboo palm. The photo shows all its charm.
Hamedorea can be placed both on the windowsill and in the back of the room, because it can well do without bright lighting. And she needs high humidity. The palm should be sprayed regularly or placed on a pallet with moistened expanded clay. During the active growing season, top dressing is required every two weeks. For this, it is convenient to use a liquid complex fertilizer for palm or universal. The bamboo palm should winter at a temperature of about 15 0 C.
You can propagate by planting children and seeds, with the planting of which it is impossible to tighten, since their germination capacity sharply decreases over time. Seeds germinate for a long time,
sometimes up to six months. Chamedorea is transferred to a large capacity when the roots master the former. It is advisable to use a special soil.
Often in stores they sell not one potted plant, but several. Developing, they will oppress each other, as a result, some of them will simply perish. The bamboo palm transplant is painful, as root injuries can hardly be avoided. Nevertheless, it is still necessary to plant a bunch of plants. In no case can the root neck be deepened. In the future, it is necessary to use transshipment.
Each plant will be more comfortable in a "personal" pot, but gradually the lower old leaves will die, the trunk will be exposed. By this time, probably, the offspring will grow, which will improve the appearance. But it happens that there are no children for several years. Therefore, it is optimal to grow three plants in one pot, and the emerging children can be planted as soon as they develop four leaves.
Bamboo palm can bloom at any time of the year under favorable conditions. When overflowing or underfilling, dry air, flowering does not occur. The frequency of irrigation is related to the air temperature in the room: the lower it is, the less water is required. Overflows are extremely dangerous. First, the leaves begin to dry out, as the roots rot and cannot cope with providing the plant with moisture, and then death can occur. Therefore, you need to water when the earthen lump has dried out to a third of the height of the pot.
Bamboo palm in dry air is a favorite object for spider mites. In this case, it must be treated with an insecticidal agent, for example, Fitoverm (an odorless biological product) or Actelikom.
