A good owner can build a house in the country from any materials. One of them is ordinary pallets. Two or three dozen such structures, good imagination and several hours are enough to build a convenient, cozy and durable structure at the summer cottage. But not all pallets can be used for construction.
Pallets selection
To build a house from pallets, which will be safe, not all pallets can be used. Which of them should not be taken for construction work?
The following types of pallets can be hazardous to health:
- Painted in bright colors. Not pallets, namely paint, can be life threatening due to toxic formaldehydes.
- Pallets from natural markets and trading markets - they absorbed smell and moisture from grocery and industrial goods. During the operation of the finished building, the pallets will dry out, emitting moisture and odors, sometimes very unpleasant.
- With IPPC marking. Usually it is applied to pallets treated with chemicals that can cause serious diseases. Building a house from pallets with such markings is harmful for both the builder and future residents of the building, since direct contact and inhalation of fumes are equally harmful.
If nothing like this is observed, the pallets are clean, free from defects and not broken, then they can be safely used for any purpose.
What can be built from pallets?
In skilled hands, this material can turn into any structure or product for a summer house or a country house. As well as from any other building material, it is possible to erect residential, household
constructions, garden houses from pallets from pallets.
Residential include:
- Seasonal or permanent campsites.
- Country houses.
- Outbuildings.
Non-residential - arbors, sheds, awnings, garages, workshops, flower beds, front gardens, furniture and many others, both temporary and permanent structures. If you protect the material from moisture, it will serve for a long time and perfectly resist weather troubles.
Features of the construction of a residential building
Before you start building a house from pallets, you need to prepare the right amount of material, and then sort it, separating thinner boards from thick ones: the first will go to the construction of walls, and the second to arrange the frame for them. Although this procedure is very tiring, but at the same time it is the most important, since it will be necessary to disassemble the pallet structures in such a way as to preserve the integrity of the wood.
If you skillfully apply a nail clipper, you can get high-quality material, and at the same time with nails, some of which can be used on a new house from pallets. The project can be created independently, and if there is no proper experience, it is advisable to take the help of professionals.
Next, according to the project, it is necessary to take measurements on the site, outline the contour of the future home and set labels in the right places.
Construction stages
To start with the manufacture of the foundation, but, since the house is made of pallets
it doesn’t have much weight, it is not necessary to build a serious foundation - it is enough to put stone blocks instead. Further, all work takes place according to the following scheme:
- On the laid and fixed base, parallel logs are installed.
- From above, sheets of chipboard are lined on them.
- Install vertical supports.
- Form doors and windows.
- Equip the roof.
This completes the installation of the frame. Next, you need to take care of planking from pallets of all elements of the building. At the same time, so that there is no violation of the position of each part, they are controlled using the level.
Roof arrangement
A shed or a house made of pallets needs protection: only pallets cannot protect the building from rain. To do this, it is necessary to treat all the wood with an antifungal drug, and then apply paint to all the elements of the building. In addition, using roofing material or any kind of soft roof, cover the wooden elements.
Remained interior decoration, and you can settle in the erected building for the whole summer. Such a structure can serve only as a short-term refuge during the warm season and as protection against precipitation. But this does not mean that it cannot be arranged in such a way that it is possible to live in it even in winter. Of course, as a permanent residence in regions with very cold winters, such a building can hardly be operated, but for temporary residence on weekends from November to March, it is quite suitable if it is additionally insulated.
Warming of a country house
Such garden houses are inexpensive, and if you spend extra money on insulation, you can get a full warm cottage almost for a penny, when compared with the price of other building materials. What needs to be done so that it is warm inside the building?
If there is material for insulation and even pallets, work can continue. To do this, from the inside of the house you need to create a frame for insulation. Most often they use mineral wool, so we will talk about it, although the installation of any other similar material is not much different.
- Nail the slats so that a heater can fit between the wall and the edge of the future frame.
- Attach a plastic film so that it completely covers the entire inner surface of the walls - this is necessary to protect the mineral wool from moisture.
- To further pad the inside of the house with boards from pallets, laying a layer of mineral wool in the niches formed. It is possible to prevent the penetration of moisture from the house to the insulation, lay a layer of film between the inner wall and mineral wool.
- Similarly, insulate the floor and ceiling.
Now it remains only to make insulation, and the holiday house on the weekend in winter days is ready. Since the house of pallets with their own hands is built of flammable material, it is best to equip the electric heating.
