The roof is one of the most expensive parts of the house. Even specialized construction teams that are engaged in the construction of housing on order, charge for it at a separate fee. It is sometimes comparable to the cost of the entire frame of the building.
So the opportunity to save a little and independently lay the
roofing material is welcomed by many. For example, inexpensive and fairly high-quality methods include laying flexible tiles, the cost of which allows it to be used even by not too wealthy people.
Preparing the foundation
You should not say much that it should be as reliable as possible and without defects. Simply put, the rafter base should not only be durable, but also treated with an antiseptic composition against decay. That is why the use of antiseptics and the presence of vapor barrier are mandatory conditions.
Do not forget that the vapor barrier must be installed correctly. Corners and other places of complex configuration are especially carefully prepared, since it is not only difficult to correct flaws in these cases, but also impossible in principle. Keep in mind that experts of the old school generally advise to process molded bitumen boards of the crate before laying flexible tiles, but do not do this.
The joints of the boards must necessarily be on the rafters, since otherwise you will not be able to provide the proper structural strength.
Ventilation
In no case should you forget about the construction of a normal ventilation system, because otherwise, even with normal vapor barrier, your roof will not last long. Please note: the exhaust hole itself is positioned as high as possible. The air intake hole is just placed as low as possible, under the slope of the flexible tile.
Stacking
First, a lining layer of vapor barrier is mounted. The overlap is at least 10-15 cm, the material is fixed with nails with an interval of at least 20 cm. Joints are punched with sealant or special roofing glue.
Fasteners
Note that for fixing flexible tiles it is unacceptable to use ordinary roofing nails. For this purpose, only specialized galvanized fasteners are used. These nails have the widest and very smooth hats, which contribute to a snug fit of the material to the surface.
With a roof slope of up to 60 degrees, it is nailed with six nails. If the steepness of the roof is higher, then a couple more fasteners are driven into the upper corners (at least 25 mm from the edge).
Please note that at an ambient temperature of up to +15 degrees Celsius, we strongly recommend heating the bottom of the sheets with a building hair dryer. In this case, the flexible tile "Iko" will protect your roof from leaks for a long time.
Some builders say that to maximize the quality of the connection, it is best to fuse strips of tiles on the roof. A burner can be used for this, but with a simpler method, molten bitumen is used.
All points at which the Shinglas flexible tile is adjacent to windows, cornices and other structural elements must be worked out with bituminous mastic or sealant.
We especially note the skate: so that there is no fuss with such a complex element, the sheet of roofing material is simply bent in half, and the skate itself is already laid on top.
