An anvil is a block on which for certain experience points you can either repair or rename items. If you combine 2 enchanted artifacts on it, then, in addition to the actual repair, their non-contradictory charms will also add up, which strikingly distinguishes the anvil from the repair capabilities in the inventory or on the workbench.

Craft anvil
Beginners are often interested in how to craft an anvil at Minecraft. It is created using iron ingots and blocks. You can see the process below in the picture. Since the creation of 1 iron block requires 9 ingots, it is easy to calculate that you will need 31 of the latter. It should be noted that during operation the anvil in Minecraft is gradually destroyed, and therefore get ready to craft it more than once. It is damaged in the fall. You can evaluate the degree of deterioration by the number of cracks that appear on its surface. If you use the anvil for its intended purpose, then the chance of its destructibility is 12%, a similar indicator for falling should be calculated as follows: 5 + (height * 5)%. At the last use, the anvil will disappear, and the item you repair will fall to the ground. Since the anvil in Minecraft has 3 strength levels, you will get the opportunity to use it 25 times (on average).
Fix items
How to use the anvil in Minecraft? In order to repair tools on it, you need to place two identical materials in the interface cells. The strength of the item you received will be approximately 7% higher than the source. Starting with version 12w42a, it is possible to repair using appropriate materials. To do this, place the item in the left slot, and the material from which it is created in the right slot. For example, to repair chain mail, iron ingots are needed. As for all kinds of tools and swords, 1 unit. material restores about 25% of the strength of the artifact. From an economic point of view, this is not entirely profitable, because a large amount of resources is lost. However, this makes it possible to preserve the spell. Plus, the repair is very beneficial for the reservation, because when you create it you need to use from 4 to 8 units. material, and one hundred percent repair will require only 4 units. So, how to make an anvil in Minecraft and repair objects with it, we figured out, then we will get acquainted with the rest of the possibilities.

Change effects
The anvil in Minecraft allows you not only to repair items, but also to change various effects superimposed on armor, enchanted books, weapons or tools. To realize this feature, you need to place elements in the interface cells that correspond to one of the following options:
- 2 objects of the same type (they must be made of the same material), which have a spell;
- enchanted book and some item;
- 2 enchanted books.
When forging the above items with identical spells and the same level, the effect on the created item will be an order of magnitude higher than the source (for example, 2 pickaxes with Effective IV will turn into 1 with Effective V). This method allows you to achieve results that have become unavailable (for example, Strength V for a bow) through enchantment after lowering the maximum level to 30, as well as some changes in the mechanics of witchcraft. But keep in mind that the level of the effect obtained cannot exceed the highest level of this enchantment (you cannot get Efficiency VI). If initially there are several types of charms on the artifacts, they will be combined by adding to the created item. Do not forget that the anvil in Minecraft will help you get incompatible spells on one item (for example, it can be Luck and Silk Touch).
Connection with experience
To fix items or combine spells, you need experience. The more powerful the magic involved in the forging, the higher level of experience you must have. Materials used in forging do not matter. It should be noted that the association may not be available if over 40 levels are needed for created items (this restriction is not in the creative mode). Another consequence of the "transfer" enchantment is that when you create a more powerful item in the first slot and less powerful in the second, you will spend much less. For example, if you combine a damaged sword with Sharp I in 1 slot and exactly the same weapon with Sharp IV in the 2nd, then the transfer of Sharp IV will be completed. If on the contrary, then only repairs will be made. This feature is preserved when combining items with various types of charms.
Rename
The anvil in Minecraft also gives you the opportunity to rename objects, but there is a restriction on the length of the name itself - it should not include more than 30 characters. You will have to pay a certain amount of experience for this service (for ordinary items, this figure is 5 levels). Each subsequent renaming will cost you a little more.
Interesting Facts
- Using an anvil, you can shoot cannons.
- If the anvil in Minecraft falls on mobs or players, it will cause certain damage, the value of which will depend on the height of the fall. If any player dies, a message pops up: "The player was crushed by a falling anvil."
- Anvil cannot be destroyed by an explosion, although it does not prevent its spread.
- In a multiplayer game with an anvil, a bug occurs where, when fixing an instrument or armor, as well as exiting the anvil menu, a thing and its components (or another similar artifact) drop out, after which experience is wasted. If you get a little experience by any other method, then the lost experience is returned, and things remain in the same condition. In order to eliminate this bug, it is necessary to switch the interface language from Russian (or another other language) to English for the time of forging. You can also delete the name given to the item or change it using the Latin alphabet.
- It is impossible to suffocate in the anvil block.
- When the anvil falls out due to falling onto an incomplete block, there is a chance to damage it, because the damage is calculated regardless of what it fell on.
- From whatever height the anvil falls, it will not be damaged by more than one level.
- If you rename the arrow, shoot it and pick it up, the name given to it will disappear.
- If you rename a block and place it somewhere, then after mining this block, the name will disappear.
