But things have changed for the better with the release of a series of games called Silent Hunter. They helped to popularize military simulations and set the basic canons of this genre.

The origins of the series
The first game was published back in 1996. As written above, the genre of simulations was not held in high esteem. However, Silent Hunter was popular among gamers of that time. The events of the game took place during the Second World War. The player was supposed to join one of the parties to the conflict - the Anti-Hitler Coalition (also known as the Allies) or the Third Reich. Silent Hunter had a lot of different submarines, and each of them had the opportunity to play. In addition, there were many tasks that were an integral part of the story campaign.
After 5 years, a new part of the series, Silent Hunter 2, was released. This time, the well-known company Ubisoft took the game under the wing. The player was to be in the shoes of the commander of a German submarine during the Battle of the Atlantic. In the new part, we significantly improved the schedule and added a boat. However, in terms of gameplay, the game has not changed much. Perhaps the main advantage of Silent Hunter 2 was the multiplayer missions in which you could interact with other players, go through some missions via the Internet.

The third game of the series was released in 2005. Events Silent Hunter 3 again occurred during the Second World War. One of the main innovations is the ability to control the crew. Each team member had his own name, surname, rank and appearance. During the passage, you can increase the rank of the crew and receive awards. Silent Hunter 4 was released in 2007, but the new part did not introduce anything interesting into the series. There was a story campaign in which the player had to take control of an American submarine from the Second World War and fight with the Japanese naval forces. The multiplayer has undergone minor changes. Now on one map could play up to 8 people.
Restarting a Successful Franchise
The continuation of the sensational series was released in 2010. In Silent Hunter 5, an improved engine was involved, and therefore the graphics in the game turned out to be at a fairly high level. In addition, the developers have the opportunity to add many interesting chips. For example, you could wander through your own submarine, using the first-person view. Silent Hunter 5 adopted all the best from the previous parts and became a worthy continuation.
Silent Hunter Online - a killer of military simulations or arrogant plagiarism?
Logically, the next game in the series was to be Silent Hunter 6. However, Ubisoft decided to release an answer to the popular military simulator World of Thanks. As a result, the Silent Hunter 6 concept was put on hold, and a game called Silent Hunter Online was released. There was no single-player campaign in this project, and the main emphasis was placed on multi-user mode. Unfortunately, the idea did not live up to expectations, the development turned out to be rather mediocre, and only the most devoted fans began to play it.

The theme of the future fits perfectly all these characteristics and fits well with Silent Hunter 6. The Russian version should be released under the wing of the Buka studio, which acted as the publisher of previous games in the series.
Others think that the developers will not be so dramatically changing the setting of the game, because in this case Silent Hunter 6 may lose the very spirit and atmosphere that were present in the previous parts. After all, managing the submarine manually was very exciting, and launching homing torpedoes was no longer so interesting.
