Crossing the border with Ukraine. What you should know

Ukraine is a neighboring state friendly to Russia. Today, crossing the border with Ukraine is not difficult for the citizens of our country. The only stop on the way from one state to another is the customs control point . Citizens of the Russian Federation and CIS countries do not need a passport and visa to travel to Ukraine.

The rules for crossing the border of Ukraine provide a list of items prohibited for import into the country. These include: psychotropic and narcotic substances, weapons, including cold, materials promoting racism, pornography, agricultural products, food in excess of personal use. Large sums of money (from 10 thousand dollars) should be declared without fail. Unimpededly imported into the country: personal items (clothing, underwear, precious jewelry, cosmetics, everyday items), cameras, video cameras, personal computers, laptops, portable medical devices, mobile phones, sports equipment, wheelchairs, wheelchairs drugs (no more than five pieces). If the total value of the imported goods does not reach 200 euros, and the total weight is less than 50 kg, no tax will be levied on their import.

Crossing the border with Ukraine on a personal vehicle requires the following documents for the car: certificate of registration of the vehicle (it is forbidden to enter the country by car with license plates from Soviet times), a valid driver's license, compulsory insurance policy. For citizens of the Russian Federation traveling in a foreign car, there are special rules for crossing the border with Ukraine. During customs inspection, they should present the power of attorney of the car owner for his driving with a note: "with the right to cross the border." Only a notarized power of attorney is considered valid. In cases where the car belongs to any Russian organization, a waybill and a travel certificate should be presented.

Crossing the border with Ukraine with minor children also requires certain documents. These include:

  • each child’s birth certificate with a Russian citizenship insert;
  • passport or passport of a child over the age of 14;
  • passport or passport of one of the parents of the child.

If a child crosses the border of Ukraine with one of the parents, customs officers have the right to request a power of attorney from the second parent. Otherwise, border crossing may be denied. If a child enters the territory of Ukraine accompanied by people who are not his parents, it is necessary to have a power of attorney for him from one of the parents. The power of attorney must also be notarized. In this case, a copy of the main page of the principal's passport is attached to it. In the event that one of the parents of the child is considered dead, missing, or for any reason deprived of parental rights, a document confirming this fact should be presented. For example, a death certificate.

Crossing the border with Ukraine by adult citizens of the Russian Federation requires the mandatory filling out of a migration card, which is issued to all persons at the time of customs clearance. A migration stamp is stamped with the date of arrival of a citizen of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. This card is the main document of a Russian citizen during his stay in the territory of a neighboring state. You should always have a migration card with you; you must not lose it. When re-passing customs control at the time of departure from the country, a stamp on the exit is put on the card, then it is withdrawn. The validity of the migration card is 90 days. If the period of stay of a citizen of the Russian Federation in Ukraine exceeds this period, at its expiration, you should contact the appropriate authorities to extend the card. Illegal stay in the territory of the state is fraught with adverse consequences (fine, impossibility of entry in the future).
