Coat of arms of the region

For quite some time, the region existed without its heraldic symbol. Only in 2003, regional deputies reviewed and approved the draft coat of arms of the Lipetsk region. A team of five authors from several cities of the country worked on it. Its appearance exactly repeats what we see on the edge flag. However, the history of the coat of arms of the Lipetsk region begins at the end of the XVIII century. After all, it was based on the heraldic sign of the county Lipetsk, approved back in 1781.

So, what does the modern coat of arms of the Lipetsk region look like? In its content and appearance it is as concise as possible. In the center of the scarlet field is a golden linden on five green hills. The heraldic shield is crowned with a golden earth crown and framed by a red-yellow ribbon of the Order of Lenin. The last region was awarded in 1967 for special merits in the national economy.

Character Meaning

The key figure, both of the flag and the coat of arms of the region, is a heart-shaped linden growing in central Russia. In heraldry, this tree represents benevolence and cordiality, and also symbolizes life as such. Since ancient times, linden gave the Russian man clothes, shoes, fragrant honey, as well as reliable shelter from the scorching summer heat. Utensils and musical instruments were made from its wood.

Five hills are the lands of five provinces of the Russian Empire (Voronezh, Oryol, Ryazan, Tambov and Kursk), on the territory of which the Lipetsk region was subsequently formed. In addition, green hills indicate the exceptional fertility of Lipetsk soils - about 85% of the region’s land fund is occupied by chernozems.

On the flag and coat of arms of the Lipetsk region there are three colors:

  • red;
  • gold;
  • green.

The red color in this case represents the heroic work of local metallurgists, power engineers and machine builders. Gold symbolizes wealth and prosperity, and also indicates the agricultural sector of the region. Green color reminds of the picturesque nature of the Lipetsk region, symbolizing the stability and prosperity of this region.
