Golden Mustache Home Healer: Plant Care

Fragrant Callisia, also called the Golden Mustache, is a plant belonging to the family of Cumelins, which includes about 500 species. In traditional medicine, it is used very actively - because the Golden Mustache, the care of which is quite simple, has healing properties.

Golden mustache is grown by many lovers of indoor plants. It’s easy to care for him, and the benefits he can bring are tremendous. This plant contains flavonoids and beta-sitosterol, which has a therapeutic effect in metabolic diseases and hormonal disorders.

The healing plant Golden Mustache, the cultivation of which is possible even for inexperienced gardeners, has a strong anti-inflammatory effect: its juice effectively heals wounds, burns and other skin lesions. The use of drugs based on the Golden Mustache is indicated for peptic ulcer, rheumatism, kidney disease (jade), as well as heart and blood vessels. In diseases of the respiratory tract, it helps to thin the sputum and effectively relieves swelling of the mucous membrane. Finally, the infusion prepared from the leaves of the Golden Mustache is used as a choleretic agent.

A golden mustache, the care of which is not difficult, under favorable conditions can grow up to two meters in height. He has two types of shoots - horizontal and erect. Vertical shoots of Kallizia have well-developed leaves, horizontal ones are practically devoid of them. Their role is different: the Golden Mustache flower propagates with leaf rosettes that grow at the ends of these shoots. Kallizia is fragrant with small white flowers, the smell of which is very pleasant (it owes its name to them). In the premises, one can often find its other variety - elegant Callisia, smaller. Its leaves are dark green, purple below, pubescent.

This plant is quite unpretentious and reproduces well: anyone who wants this can grow a Golden mustache in the apartment. Caring for it provides for regular, but moderate watering and good lighting (but not direct sunlight!). With a lack of moisture and excessive sun exposure, the ends of the leaves begin to fade and blacken. The flower pot should be large, the substrate should be a mixture of turf land, humus and sand (it should be about a third of the total volume). Expanded clay drainage must be put on the bottom. The tall stems of the Golden Mustache must be propped up, otherwise it will be difficult for the flower to support their weight. In summer, the plant feels great on the balcony. It can be planted on a personal plot, however, with the expectation that in the heat it was protected by the shade of trees.

It is better to propagate the Golden mustache in April – May. The apical part of the "mustache" is cut off and rooted in water, and after the appearance of the roots, they are transplanted into the ground. You can propagate the plant without cutting them: for this, rosettes are pressed to the ground and lightly sprinkled on top of it. After rooting, the shoots are cut off from the main stem. Cuttings of Kallisia take root well in the ground, but in this case they should be covered with plastic wrap for three to four days. After removing the film, the cuttings must be well sprayed and watered abundantly.

The golden mustache should be regularly (once a week), especially during the growth period, fed with complex fertilizer. When growing a flower on a personal plot for feeding, they also use rotted manure and ash taken in equal parts. Half a bucket of this mixture should be applied to each plant when they are planted in the spring in the soil. Water Callisia in the evening.

Despite the fact that this flower has healing properties, you should not uncontrollably take the Golden mustache. Caring for it is simple and many begin to grow this plant in order to treat certain diseases. However, self-medication with a Golden mustache can do much harm: sometimes dizziness, itching, and skin rashes are noted. These phenomena begin, on average, on the seventh day after the start of juice or infusion of the plant. Therefore, when using it for medical purposes, great care should be taken for at least two weeks.
