New Year's holidays are approaching, and this implies preparation for fun parties, morning performances at school and in kindergarten. Events are held with the obligatory donning of carnival costumes. You can, of course, take and buy a cheerful motley hat of Chinese manufacture in the store, but this will be a one-time option, since the material is always cheap in such products and the quality is appropriate.

Santa hat
More recently, the traditional outfit of the American Santa Claus has come into fashion. It attracts with its simplicity and ease of wearing, and in tailoring too. This simple New Year's cap can be worn by both an adult at a corporate party and a kid in kindergarten. Basically, such a headdress is a tight-fitting sock with a fur trim or a simple white cloth. On top there is a pompom made of fur or fabric. To look original, you can decorate it with small details, for example, sew around the circumference with rain, attach small elements, creating a pattern on the rim.
To sew such a New Year's cap, you must first make a pattern and buy the necessary materials. If you have a sewing machine, then a minimum of time will be spent on sewing. If there is no technique, then with your own hands using a needle and thread, you can also do fine.
Necessary materials

- A piece of red cloth. It should have a knitted texture, as the cap fits tightly on the head and stretches. You can take more expensive velvet or velor. A felt headdress will look beautiful. Half a meter of fabric is enough for cutting.
- A small strip of white fur 62 cm long, 10 cm wide. You can also buy felt sheet instead of fur.
- If another material is used instead of fur, then you still need to have cotton wool to create a pompom.
- Sheet of drawing paper for drawing patterns, a long ruler and a simple pencil.
- Sewing kit: needle, thread of white and red colors.

Pattern drawing
To make a drawing correctly, you need to measure the head of a child or adult. A line is drawn on a piece of paper which corresponds to the volume. Remember to add 1-2 cm to the seams. Then you need to measure the middle of the segment and put a point. From it, a perpendicular is drawn up to the height that you like. Approximately 30 to 50 cm.
Connecting lines to the corners of the base are drawn from the top point. The resulting isosceles triangle will be the pattern of the New Year's cap. It remains only to transfer the dimensions to the fabric. To do this, scissors cut this triangle along the contour. Then the template is attached to the matter and circled around the perimeter with chalk.
There are two ways to proceed. The first method is to cut out fabric that is bent in half. Then the seam will be on one side. If the material is not so flexible, then two such triangles are cut out, only the length of the base will be half as much.
Assembly parts
New Year's cap is sewn on the sides either on a typewriter, or with hands in red thread. Then, white fur is sewn from below, folding in half. It is done like this. The fur is sewn to the front side of the fabric with the wrong side, then it is turned over to the face and sewn with the other side to the wrong side of the fabric. It turns out a double layer of fur, which serves as a rim.
Pompom is also done independently. For this, a circle is cut out of white material. A piece of cotton wool is put in the middle. Sew stitches along the edge of the circle and they are pulled together. Sew the resulting pompom on top of the cap.
Further work on decorating. You can, of course, leave it in this form, but it will be more beautiful to trim it around the rim with silver or red rain.
Gnome cap
For the New Year's holiday, you can sew another variant of the New Year's cap on the matinee. This is a hat of gnomes, helpers of Santa Claus. Usually they are green and have a red undercoat.
It is sewn in two parts. Instead of a bubon, a round metal bell is sewn. Consider carefully the pattern of this headgear. In order to draw it, you need to be a little artist. First, the head circumference is measured and the base of the cap, equal to half the volume of the head plus 1 cm to the seams, is indicated. Then you need to measure the height of the cap and draw two sides perpendicular to the base.
Drawing patterns
After the main dimensions are applied, you need to draw the cap itself. In order for the lines to be smooth, patterns can be used. It's okay if they are not available, you can do this work manually, smoothly rounding the lines.
Sharp triangles are drawn below. It is necessary to measure the length of the side and divide it equally. The “tongues” must be the same size. Further, the same triangles are transferred to the red material. The height of the red fabric is 10 cm.
After the parts have been sewn together from the wrong side, the cap is turned on the front side and the bell is sewn.
Knitting cap
Before you start knitting, you need to do the calculation of loops. For this, a small sample of the knit used is knitted. If the product uses two types of knitting, as in the photograph, you need to connect a sample of gum and a scarf pattern. Then you need to steam this knitted piece with an iron through a damp cotton cloth.
The number of sample loops should be divided by its width in centimeters. The result will be the calculation of how many loops you need to dial by 1 cm. Next, you need to multiply these data by the circumference of the head. To the obtained number of loops for a set for knitting needles, we add two more hem.
Having tied the length of the elastic, tie a red thread and continue to knit with a garter stitch. The height of the knit to decrease is 15 cm. Then a gradual decrease in the number of loops begins.
Here, you also need to take a measurement. It is necessary to think over what height the cap will have. The length of the connected part of the product should be divided by the number of rows in the sample and multiplied by the desired length of the cap. Thus, the number of rows that are left to be connected is calculated. Then you need to calculate how many rows you need to knit two loops at the same time on one and the other. In the end, only 8 stitches should remain on the knitting needles.
When the job of cutting the stitches is finished, the thread comes off and its edge is inserted into the needle, threaded through the remaining 8 stitches and tightened. Then sew both ends of the cap.
Pompom making
To make a fluffy pompom on the cap, you need to cut out two identical "bagels" from cardboard. Putting them together, we begin to wind a tight white thread, threading it inward. When many layers are wound, the thread is tied to a knot. Next, the scissors are inserted into the gap between the two cardboards, and all the threads are cut in a circle.
Then they take a simple dense thread, also white, and tie all the layers to a knot inside (between the "bagels"). At the end, the cartons are cut and removed from the pompom. It remains only to sew it to the top of the cap.
