When building a cottage or a country house, an exploited flat roof can be chosen . In this case, you need to apply a special technology. The exploited roof must be resistant to all types of impacts, and this is possible only when all layers of the so-called “roofing cake” are precisely made.
There are two types of such a roof:
- traditional;
- inversion.
Traditional roof
The device operated roof in the traditional way. As you move away from the floor slab, there will be a slope-forming layer that serves to drain water from the roof. The angle of its slope is from 0.5 to 3 °. The operated roof traditional contains several layers. The direction of water discharge must be specified by the documentation. Arranges a slope-forming layer below the waterproofing. The waterproofing layer does not let water into the house. It can be made of PVC membranes, bitumen or polymer insulation materials. A layer of thermal insulation keeps heat in the house. It must be correctly selected, otherwise it will get wet and collapse. It is usually protected by waterproofing.
In the case of the inverse version, everything is done the other way around. Thermal insulation is placed above waterproofing. This is the main difference between these roofing coatings - the direct contact of the insulation with water. The inversion operated roof is completed with heaters with low water absorption indicators, for example, foamed glass. In addition, there is also a drainage layer that removes water from the structure. It consists of cavities through which water that has got inside is removed. It also has built-in filter elements that do not allow cavities to silt. Geotextiles are often used as drainage.
Inversion option
If the operated roof is inverse, then the same layers are located, counting from the floor slab as follows: slope-forming layer, waterproofing, heat insulation, drainage, protective and filter layer. The main advantages of the inversion option are the following: a long service of waterproofing, the ability to quickly remodel the roof, thermal insulation evenly distributes the load over its entire area. Disadvantages: it is impossible to use cotton insulation materials, the use of expensive material as drainage.
The traditional exploited roof has the following advantage: it is possible to use cheap non-combustible cotton insulation materials. In general, any thermal insulation material can be used as thermal insulation. Disadvantages: high construction weight, short life.
Types of use
It could be:
- option with green and pedestrian zones;
- roof parking;
- roof terrace;
- green roof.
The terrace option is different in that the materials of the topmost layer can be different. For example, if ceramic tiles are laid, then cement-sand mortar should be placed under it. Another view is the green roof. It has instead of the top cover fertile land on which various plants can grow, even shrubs and trees. It happens that on the roof they arrange parking for cars, especially if there is no place for cars on the ground. He arranges as a roof-terrace. A roof option with landscaping and walking areas is possible for all types of roofs in use.
