"Ognevent-Basalt": features, types and methods of installation

Fireproof materials are used to protect metal duct systems, smoke exhaust and ventilation from the effects of fire and their thermal insulation. They increase the fire resistance of the metal walls of the systems, thereby delaying the flame for as long as possible. These materials are produced in various forms. In rolls or mats "Ognevent-Basalt" is made, which will be discussed in this article.

Material Features

The main component of the material is a particularly thin basalt fiber. From above, the material is foiled (laminated) with a mesh that can be made of metal, glass, silica or basalt fabric.

  • Able to simultaneously serve as a layer of fire protection and thermal insulation.
  • It has good soundproofing properties.
  • The period of operation of the material is equal to the service life of the duct.
  • It can be used at any time of the year (under various climatic conditions).

  • It has a low weight, due to which it exerts minimal pressure on the supporting structures of the building.

Fireproof coating "Ognevent-Basalt" is made in the form of rolls or mats. The length of the roll is 6 meters and its width is 1 meter. The thickness of the mat can be from 20 to 100 millimeters. The density of the material is 35 kilograms per cubic meter. The fire resistance coefficient depends on the temperature remaining in the room.

Material classification

Existing types of material can increase the fire resistance of duct systems from 1 to 3 hours. This parameter is already reflected in the classification:

  • Ognevent-Basalt EI 60 increases the fire resistance limit to 1 hour.
  • EI 120 - up to 2 hours.
  • EI 150 - up to 2.5 hours.
  • EI 180 - up to 3 hours.

These types of material differ in thickness, which corresponds to the technical conditions. The thicker the material, the higher the fire resistance will be.

So, the fire resistance limit of EI 60 reaches โ€œOgnevent-Basaltโ€ of 20 mm thickness. For materials EI 120, EI 150 and EI 180, the thickness of the mat is 40, 50 and 70 mm, respectively.

The material labeling also indicates the area where it can be applied. The numbers indicate the number of sides from which to lining:

  • The number "1" - on the one hand;
  • โ€œ2โ€ - on both sides;
  • โ€œ6โ€ - from all sides.

Letters denote the material with which the coating was lined:

  • The letter "F" is made of aluminum foil.
  • "C" is a metal mesh.
  • "FS" - foil and mesh at the same time.
  • "St" - fiberglass.
  • โ€œBโ€ - with basalt fabric.
  • "K" - silica tissue.

Installation of fire protection ducts

Before using the Ognevent-Basalt, it is necessary to prepare the air ducts. If the system is made of black steel, it must be cleaned. For this, putties, brushes, sandpaper and other means of mechanical cleaning can be used. Next, the air ducts must be treated with White Spirit, solvent or any other solvent. After this, the system must be completely primed.

In those cases if the duct system was previously primed, it must be checked and, if necessary, put in order. If the primer exfoliates, it must be removed. After this, this area is degreased and primed.

If the system is made of galvanized steel, it does not need to be primed. Simply remove dust and debris. After that, it must be degreased.

After preparing the system, Ognevent-Basalt is applied. The material with the fibrous side is placed on the duct and wrapped. One layer of material is enough. It is attached using a metal mesh, pins with washers, a bandage made of metal wire. The mounting step is selected within 20-40 centimeters. If the diameter of the duct is more than 80 centimeters, fasteners are installed with an interval of 20 centimeters. This avoids sagging.

The edges overlap (5-7 centimeters, depending on the thickness of the material). If necessary, the joints can be glued with aluminum tape.

Safety precautions

Ognevent-Basalt is off. It is explosion proof. When working with this material, personal protective equipment must be used. Among them: a respirator, goggles, gloves, hand pastes. Work with the material is allowed only with good ventilation.
