Every mother needlewoman loves to pamper her baby. Moms of girls are especially trying. With the onset of cold weather, little fashionistas have mountains of hats, mittens and scarves of the most incredible colors.
If you find that your fashionista needs a brand new warm hat, we present to your attention the knitted hat “Owl”. The scheme with the description here is quite understandable and not very difficult even for beginners. But the finished product will come out warm, fashionable and very creative.
Materials and Tools
To knit the owl caps (the description is a bit lower), you need to stock up on yarn and tools in advance. Most likely, you will find everything you need at home, if not, you will have to go to the store.
If you decide to knit the Owl hat with knitting needles, the scheme with the description for which we offer in the article, first of all, choose yarn. For warm winter things, it is best to use a thick and soft woolen thread. If the autumn variant is supposed, then it is possible to manage and half-wool. We choose the color at our discretion, but you can also show a little creativity here. For example, to improve the contrast of the picture, you can combine 2 yarns. From the lighter, knit the main fabric, and use a darker thread for the image of the owl. You will get a two-color hat.
The Owl pattern with knitting needles (patterns with a description may be different) is easy to knit. What kind of tools to choose for work depends on what kind of knitting experience you already have. The product can be created on two or five knitting needles (like socks), or you can use circular ones.
In addition, you will need an extra knitting needle or a large pin to remove the stitches when making a pattern. Also prepare a “gypsy” needle and beautiful buttons for decoration (eyes).
Owl weave
So here we go. We offer the first scheme with the description of the “Owl” hat.
The whole pattern is made with knitting needles using the front (LP) and wrong (FR) loops. The former are indicated by a vertical line, the latter by a horizontal one.
The silhouette of an owl itself is only 8 loops and another 4 on each side must be done with the wrong side. This is necessary so that the owl looks as convex and effective as possible.
All rows are tied with alternating front and back loops in the order indicated in the scheme. And only three rows of all have additional features. At 23, 17 and 7, it is necessary to cross the loops. It is done like this:
- 7th row, knit 4 FROM, then 2 PIECES, remove them on a pin or additional knitting needle and leave them behind the knitting fabric.
- Knit the next 2 drugs, and then return the stitches from the pin to the main knitting needle and knit them.
- Now repeat everything again, with the only difference being that the loops removed on the pin must be removed in front of the canvas.
- Do the same in the 17th and 23rd rows.
Perhaps the first time you and not everything will work out. But when you understand the principle of weaving, you can independently change the pattern. If desired, the owl can be made a little larger or more embossed by adding several loops in the right places.
A little different "Owl"
And here’s another way to knit an Owl hat. The description diagram here is slightly different from the previous one, although the notation is similar:
- horizontal bar - purl loop (FM);
- vertical - front (LP).
The main Owl pattern is enclosed in 33 rows, each of which has 24 loops. 20 loops are made by the owl itself and 2 loops on each side are added for the volume of the pattern.
- 1st – 2nd row : we knit 6 LP + 12 FROM + 6 LP.
- 3rd row : we begin to knit a pattern. 4 LP + 4 loops cross to the right (2 p. Remove the pin and leave behind the canvas, knit 2 LPs, and then return the loops from the pin to the main needle and also knit them LP) + 8 loops alternate FROM \ LP + 4 loops with crossing to the left (2 p. remove the pin and leave it in front of the canvas, knit 2 ribbons, and then return the loops from the pin to the spoke and also knit their ribbons) + 4 FROM.
- 4th row : knit loops according to the picture.
- 5th row : make out the tummy. To do this, it is enough to reduce the number of side loops and increase the number of embossed central ones. We knit like this: 2 FROM + 4 loops with crossing to the right (similar to what was in the third row) + 12 loops by alternating FROM \ LP + 4 loops with crossing to the left + 2 FROM.
- 6–17th row : 2 PI + 2 LP + 16 loops of alternating FM / LP + 2 LP + 2 FM.
- 18th row : finish the design of the tummy. Now you need to reduce the number of central loops and increase the number of side loops. We knit like this: 2 FROM + 4 loops with crossing to the left (we leave the pin before work) + 12 loops alternating FROM \ LP + 4 loops with crossing to the right (pin behind the canvas) + 2 FROM.
- 19th row : we knit according to the pattern.
- 20th row : 4 FROM + 8 loops we cross to the right (4p. We remove the pin and leave behind the canvas, we knit 4 ribbons, and then we return the loops from the pin to the main needle and we also knit their ribbons) + 8 loops with crossing to the left (4p .Remove in front of the canvas, knit 4 medicinal products, and then return the loops from the pins and also knit their medicinal products) + 4 FROM.
- 21–29th row : 4 FROM + 16 PL + 4 FROM.
- 30th row : fits the same way as the twentieth. 4 FROM + 8 LP with crossing to the right + 8 LP with crossing to the left + 4 FROM.
- 31–32 rows : we knit ears. 4 FM + 4 LP + 8 FM + 4 LP + 4 FM
Jewelry for hats
When the knitted product is ready, it remains to decorate it a little. For the eye, you can take beautiful large buttons. The nose can be embroidered with black thread, or you can outline it with a triangular button.
Well and the most important decoration is the tassel ears. We cut the yarn into segments of 10-15 cm and collect two small bundles. We add each of them in half and tie a knot at the bend. It should make small brushes. Now we sew the ears to the corners of the cap.
Hat "Owl" without a pattern
But what about those for whom the Owl cap design seems too complicated? Often, beginning craftswomen, only having learned to knit the wrong and front loops, already want to create some kind of masterpiece for themselves. But skills, unfortunately, are still not enough. But what if there is no diagram describing the Owl pattern? Cap knitting does not work?
Do not despair! If you have a little lack of skill, you can simply connect the rectangle with an elastic band along the long side. Now fold and sew the short sides of the rectangle and the top. You got a hat-square, with an elastic band and with small protruding ears. Now it remains just to decorate it:
- From dense felt, cut out the nose and large round eyes.
- Sew them on the front of the product.
- From the remnants of yarn of a contrasting (or matching) color, we cut the ears-brushes and fix them at the corners of the product.
That's all, the Owl hat is ready without using the scheme!
