patchwork quilt from the remnants of grandmother's bathrobes and skirts
. Thus, you will usefully use unnecessary, but still whole rags, and at the same time update the appearance of the old, but beloved and warm blanket. Even the simplest and most straightforward way - stitching square shreds - will transform the product. If you get carried away, you will be able to create real patchwork masterpieces in the future, which will be a very appropriate gift to friends and family.
So, in order to sew a patchwork quilt with your own hands, you first need to determine its size. For example, for a double bedspread, you will need to cut out 49 squares with sides of 32 cm each. You take a fabric of "different sizes", both in color and texture. The main thing is that the general combination of pieces pleases the eye. Arrange the cut squares in seven rows (seven shreds in each). This will allow you to see the big picture of how your future will look patchwork.
e blanket. Until the pieces are sewn together, you can swap them in places until you achieve the most harmonious combination. When you are satisfied, you only need to sew them in the same order in which they were laid out. They connect simply: two adjacent rags fold one on the other, with the wrong sides facing out, and are sewn on a typewriter along the edge, with an indent of one centimeter. After this, the stitched must be turned upside down and ironed at its center. When one row of seven pieces is ready, proceed to the next, and so on, until you have seven patchwork strips of equal length in your hands. We sew them along the length, and we also iron the seams. You have on your hands an almost finished patchwork quilt, or rather, the upper part of its cover. The lower part does not need to be sewn from shreds, a whole fabric, for example, from taffeta, is quite suitable. Its size should correspond to the size of the square that we just made. We cut both parts along the entire perimeter, leaving only a small gap uncrossed, through which we turn out the resulting cover and put our old, favorite blanket into it. Well, we straighten it in the corners and manually sew a hole in a
hidden seam . A couple more points - and the quilt will be completely ready. All that remains is to quilting it and, if desired, to decorate with fittings. To do this, sew the product through the
gypsy needle through the places where the corners of the squares converge. In these places, you can sew fabric flowers, bows or anything you want.
