Star Wars: The Jedi Academy is another part of the popular space adventure combined into one series of video games called Jedi Knight. The release of the project took place in 2003 on personal computers and on the XBox. During the passage of the Jedi Academy, the player witnesses the events that occur immediately after the completion of the story arch "Return of the Jedi". The main protagonist is a young cadet named Jaden Kor, studying at the Jedi Academy under the New Order. The main founder of the academy is Luke Skywalker, who prepares future Jedi Knights and continues to fight various villains.
Events in the game universe
The Shard of the Empire is drawing to a close. The influence of the New Republic is dying away, and the confrontation is limited to only small local conflicts. Due to constant terrorist attacks and other ongoing crimes, the galaxy continues to need the Jedi like never before. Our old friend Luke Skywalker and his loyal friend and partner Kyle Katarn jointly oversee the Yavin Academy, also known under a different name - Praxeum.
We play as a character named Jaden Cor, the new Star Wars hero Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, who is a student at the Jedi Skywalker Academy, located on the Yavin 4 satellite. The main events of the game begin with the arrival of Jaden (a) and other future Padawans on a transport ship.
main characters
During the passage of the game Jedi Academy, we will meet with an interesting cast of characters. Star Wars fans are familiar with some of them in absentia, while other heroes appear in the universe for the first time and have unique backgrounds behind them. In addition to the already well-known Jayden (a) Cor (a), we will get acquainted with the following characters of the Jedi Academy (attention, spoilers!):
- Rosh Penin - a new cadet of the Jedi Academy and the best friend of the protagonist. In the story, Rosh should join the Dark Side of the Force. Later, during the events on Taspir III, Jaden (y) will have to make an important choice, as a result of which the fate of Penin will be decided - either he will return to the Jedi or die.
- Kyle Katarn is a mentor to Jadan (a) and Rocha, a Jedi Master. Becoming a partner of the protagonist for several missions.
- Tavion Axims is the leader of the cult of Ragnos, a Jedi who has joined the Dark Side. Dies during the battle of Korriban, in a duel against Jaden (a).
- Alora is another powerful Dark Jedi follower trained with Tavion. Meets Jaden (ohm) several times in direct confrontation and dies at her / his own hands in Taspir III.
- Luke Skywalker is one of the most famous characters in the Star Wars universe. According to the plot of the game, it was Luke who founded the New Order and became the head of the Jedi Academy on the Yavin-4 satellite.
- Mark Ragnos is the Dark Lord of the Sith, who is the ball resurrected by Tavion. Taking control of the body of his follower, Ragnos fought with Jayden (oh), but failed and was calm.
- Wedge Antilles is an eminent member of the Red Squadron, where he first met Luke Skywalker. Later, after the events of the Battle of Yavin, he became one of the best pilots of the Vagrant Squadron. In the game, Wedge takes part in a special operation on Kril'dor along with the main character.
- Boba Fett - The appearance of the legendary Mandalorian mercenary at the Jedi Academy will be another pleasant surprise for all Star Wars fans. We meet with Fett on the planet Ord-Mantell, where we fight with him and win.
- Chewbacca is the last known character we will meet during the passage of the game. Chewbacca and Jyden cross at the space port, where they are attacked by armed villains.
Gameplay Details
At the very beginning of the passage of Jedi Academy, users are given the opportunity to create their own character. Customization of the image consists of: race, gender, clothing, as well as some individual details of appearance. In addition, players can personally engage in the construction of a personal lightsaber for the protagonist.
In a single player game there are three main campaigns, each of which has 5 missions and several intermediate tasks. Pass Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy can be nonlinear, that is, to complete some missions in random order. The player is given four levels of difficulty to choose from.
About weapons
Before starting a new mission, the player must equip his character with the appropriate weapons. In addition to the mandatory lightsaber (which is not surprising), Jayden (a) has a lot of small arms in his arsenal - these are various blasters, crossbows, rifles, as well as a flash drive. If you want to bring hand-held explosives with you, you will have to choose between several types of detonators and mines. Also, during the passage of missions, the character will repeatedly have the opportunity to use autonomous blaster turrets for firing. Most guns fire ammunition or renewable energy (usually recharging takes place through special stations).
As for protection, its role is played by armor in the form of an energy shield that surrounds Jaden (a) from all sides. Such armor can be recharged both through special stations and through portable batteries.
Lightsaber
We continue our review at the Jedi Academy and move on to the main weapon of any self-respecting Jedi - lightsabers. According to Laura, depending on the selected handle, they can be divided into single and double (two-blade). Colors in which "blades" are painted also vary - these can be either classic blue and green, or newer yellow and orange shades. When a character uses a lightsaber against his opponent, he opens up a number of different mechanics, strokes, blocks and acrobatic elements. Great variability of movements and attacks gives room for tactical imagination.
In order for the Jedi to show greater effectiveness in battles, the New Order has developed several individual fighting styles. For those who focus on speed and defense, a fast fighting style is suitable, for those who rely on a powerful attack and domination of the enemy - a strong style, for those who use only a two-blade sword - the style of two swords. By the way, the possession of these weapons implies not only close combat, but also long-range combat. Any Jedi can carry out a long-range attack by throwing his lightsaber at an opponent.
In one of the missions of the game, the main character will have to deal with the construction of a new sword, as well as the selection of a new fighting style.
About the Force
Skills associated with this supernatural energy are what define any Jedi and Sith. According to the plot of Jedi Academy, Strength manifests itself in three forms: light, dark and universal. The first technique gives the possibility of healing, deceiving the mind, absorbing enemy energy, as well as creating a shield from all physical attacks. The followers of the Dark Force gain additional power, fueled by their own fury, and learn to influence their opponent by drawing life energy, Strangulation, and Lightning strike. As for the third, universal technique, it gives fairly neutral abilities: attraction and repulsion of objects, increased speed, enhanced jumps, as well as a more improved perception of one’s surroundings.
During the passage of the next mission, the player will be able to learn a certain ability of the Force or to pump already existing one level. The endings of Jedi Academy will depend on the choice of the character’s side.
Multiplayer component
In addition to the single story, which is given more attention at the Jedi Academy, players can also spend extra hours in multiplayer. The local multiplayer mode makes it possible to play not only with real people on the network, but also with the NPCs that are controlled by the computer itself.
Before starting the passage, like the single player, you need to create and configure your own character, while the options for customization, for obvious reasons, are fewer. The gameplay of the multiplayer mode is divided into three types: "capture the enemy flag", "duel" and "siege". Participants can customize the rules of the match and choose the style of passing, for example, "each for himself" or teamwork.
Novelization output
In 2010, a book was released called Cross-Flow, authored by American writer Paul S. Kemp. One of the protagonists of history was Jaden Cor. The events described in the Transverse Current relate immediately to two time intervals: the period of the Great Hypercosmic War and the period covering the life of the Galaxy after 41 ABY. The book established its own canon of the image of Jaden: the hero became a man and a man, he has brown hair and gray eyes (a similar image can be found among Jedi Academy skins). Also confirmed and a pair of lightsabers that were used by the character in the game. In the book, Jaden often uses the third yellow sword.
In 2011, a direct sequel to the first novel by Paul S. Campy followed, which was called "Continuous Flow". The plot of the new book also continued the story of Jaden Cora.

Few people know, but the game has the ability to use the built-in cheats, which greatly simplify the passage of overly complex missions. To activate them, they usually use the developer console, launched through the combination of the Shift and "~" keys. Before entering the codes themselves, you need to enter the devmapall command (for older versions of the game) or helpusobi 1 (for new versions of the game). Then you can use the available cheat list:
- god - untouchability / immortality mode (also known as god mode);
- no clip - the ability to pass through walls;
- no target - opponents stop attacking the hero;
- kill - kill your own character;
- givehealth - replenish the supply of HP;
- givearmor - replenish the spent armor;
- d_npcfreeze 1/0 - freeze opponents - freeze enemies;
- giveammo - replenish ammunition stock;
- npc killall - all enemies die automatically;
- undying - returns mortal mode;
- g_saber AutoAim 3 ... 1000 - increase homing during the throw of the lightsaber (range from 3 to 1000);
- g_saber AnimSpeed 1.7 ... 8 - determination of the speed with which the character strikes with a lightsaber (range from 1.7 to 8);
- g_saber AutoBloking 1.7 ... 1000 - determining the speed with which the hero reflects enemy attacks (range from 1.7 to 1000);
- npc spawn "name" - the appearance of any NPC hero;
- set ForceJump 1 ... 3 - determination of the height of the jump (range from 1 to 3);
- set ForceHeal 1 ... 3 - self-healing (the amount of replenished HP in the range from 1 to 3).
Chapter Walkthrough on Tatooine
Until that moment, we shared general information on the game, which covered topics such as gameplay, plot, differences between modes, etc. For a better idea of what the passage of Jedi Academy is (in Russian), we decided to share a small guide on one of the first missions, the events of which unfold on the planet Tatooine.
At the end of the prologue, Luke will give his charges the latest news regarding the cult of Marka Ragnos. It turns out that someone is trying to find a way to return this powerful monster to the world of the living. At the moment, this unknown searches the entire Galaxy, hunting for forces that should help him achieve his insidious plans.
The first mission in passing the Jedi Academy, to which Luke sends Jaden (a), is the planet Tatooine - this is where we need to investigate and shed light on the above circumstances. Our hero goes with Kyle Katarn to this task. Once on the planet, he will go to scout the situation and leave us alone for a while. After this, a sudden attack will occur, and we will encounter an old friend (not in the game) Chewbacca. He will be on our heels - keep our eyes open, since it is not known whether Wookiees can be trusted. We get to the yard and deal with all the opponents, then we go into the utility room. Not surprisingly, new enemies attack us here too - we kill everyone and go off the force fields. We make a detour and return to our spaceship. At the same time, new traders, armed and dangerous, will start to come running towards us, from which Chewbacca will protect us. We reach the generator, turn it off and continue our journey. One of the opponents will take up a grenade launcher and start shooting at us. We flee from it, running into the corridor, kill a couple of merchants, overcome the trap of laser stretch marks and deal with several more armed villains. Slowly, but surely, we continue to move forward, simultaneously fighting off the scorching enemies in all directions. We kill one of them and replenish the arsenal with enemy grenades, which a little earlier flew in our direction.
We continue our guide to the Jedi Academy. We restore the armor level and move to the next room through the balcony. We climb into the lift, which takes us up to where the terminal is located. By the way, through this very terminal you can save Falcon from the force field. We run to the very end and notice at our goal some stranger holding a lightsaber in his hands. We fight with him and win. Then we deactivate the terminal and with a calm soul return to Chewbacca.
Already on the street we will be watched by several more merchants who will have to deal with. After that, Kyle will find us. We return aboard the spaceship and keep the course back to the academy.
