Many novice craftsmen who have just recently begun to deal with furniture are often interested in the question of what are the sizes of a sheet of chipboard - the most popular material for the production of all kinds of furniture. The same question is often of interest to designers who design new, original products for household goods.
Why is it so important to know the typical dimensions of a chipboard sheet
Any piece of cabinet furniture (cabinet, table, bookshelf, bed, etc.) consists of a certain number of parts fastened together by means of various furniture connections. These details are obtained by cutting chipboard. The dimensions of the sheet and the direction of the structure of its surface largely determine how much material will be in the residue, what will be the price of the future product and how many sheets will need to be purchased from the supplier. Note that a particle board is afraid of dampness, and therefore it can be difficult to store it in warehouses. In addition, investing working capital in stocks from an economic point of view is unprofitable. Therefore, in many furniture factories, the material in question is bought to order. Knowing what the sizes of a chipboard sheet are, it is possible not only to accurately calculate how much of the mentioned material will be needed for a particular product, but also to make optimal cutting, in which the residues will be minimized.
Chipboard sheet sizes: what are they?
The thickness of this material varies from 10 to 38 mm. A plate with a size of 16 mm is the most popular. Particleboard with a thickness of 18 mm is used slightly less often, usually this material is used to make better and more expensive furniture. Of the thin slab (10 mm) often make the doors of the wardrobe and frame facades, and of the thick (28 and 38 mm) usually produce worktops for kitchens and dining tables. As for the dimensions, the sheet length is as follows: 5500, 3660, 3500, 2750 and 2440 mm; width - 2440, 1830, 1750, 1500 and 1200 mm. Usually sellers indicate in their price lists all the necessary parameters.

In order to find out which dimensions of the plate will be the most optimal, it is convenient to use specialized cutting programs, for example, the 2D-Place application. First, the dimensions and number of parts are entered into it manually or by import from a file. Then, the dimensions of the chipboard, the thickness of the cut, the distance from the edges and other technical parameters are set. After that, the program, following one of the two algorithms, will automatically show how best to cut each sheet into parts, and how many such sheets will be needed to produce the desired product. The cost of particleboard depends, first of all, on the country of manufacture, the thickness of the material, as well as on the presence and type of laminated coating. The price of a plate of the popular Swisspan brand (Ukraine) varies in the range of 240-400 rubles / m 2 . A square meter chipboard of the German company Egger will cost an average of 80-120 rubles more. Basically, the plate of this company is produced in a thickness of 18 mm and in terms of workmanship is slightly better than Swisspan products. It is worth noting that non-laminated board (i.e., not having a color coating) is the cheapest. They use it only in internal, invisible places, as a rule, as a filler.
