You are going on vacation, where you want to spend a carefree time on the beach? Most likely, your suitcase is already packed, but statistics show that people, taking care of their appearance, simply forget about the comfort and convenience of relaxation. It is for you that we will tell you how to create a cover for the beach, which can easily be transformed into a bag for personal items.
On the white sand
In a fit of enthusiasm and intolerance, we fly south, forgetting about the necessary things: whether it is a bedspread for the beach or a large comfortable bag in which you can fold a couple of towels, a spare swimsuit, fruit for a snack, cream and water. It is because of this rush that you have to buy all the accessories on the spot, laying out for them an amount exaggerated several times.
What to do? Of course, do not worry, but stock up with the necessary materials, since a bag cover for the beach with your own hands is made in a couple of hours.
Beach Cover Bag: Fabric
So that the manufacturing process does not seem long to you, it is necessary to prepare all the necessary components in advance. Most of them you will find in the store for sewing or creativity.
When choosing a fabric, it is worth considering the fact that the beach cover will constantly come in contact with sand, water and wet objects. Therefore, a raincoat fabric that will repel water is best suited. And thanks to the huge range, your product will look unique and interesting.
If wet fabric is not important for you, then you can safely take cotton matter, which weighs very little and dries quickly. Also, remember that a beach cover should be easy to wash. When choosing flowers, we will choose bright combinations that will not only cheer you up, but also set you apart from the crowd of Chinese beach bags.
Accessories for the product
Now we turn to structural materials, without which the lounger does not turn into a roomy bag. These components are also easy to find in any store offering accessories for home-made garments.
- Ribbons for pens. Depending on your personal preferences, you can change them to shoelaces, slings or strips of fabric. It is worth choosing dense, non-stretching handles so that they do not cause discomfort during wear.
- Foam rubber. It will add softness to our bedspread, which is very important if you are relaxing on a rocky beach. Ideal would be a foam rubber 1 centimeter thick.
- Lightning. In this case, you will need a detachable one to easily disconnect and fasten the walls, turning the bedspread for the beach and picnic into a bag for personal items.
- Pins and needles for sewing.
- Good tailor scissors. If there are none, then you can use ordinary stationery, of which you are confident.
Before the start of creativity
It's time to carve out blanks that we will use later. To do this, we cut out a pair of identical rectangles with a width of about 70 centimeters from fabrics of two colors. The length is factory, which has a roll of fabric: usually about 150 centimeters.
Also from the outer and inner fabrics we cut out several rectangles for pockets, the sizes of which you adjust yourself. We cut slings for handles about 60 centimeters long each. In addition, we trim the zippers, the length of which should not exceed 1/4 of the length of the entire mat.
Do not forget about the foam, which we also prepare for the stitching process. We will need about four rectangles, the total length of which will easily fit into our bedspread for the beach.
Under the noise of a sewing machine
Now we begin the long-awaited period of stitching all parts together. In order not to confuse you, we will describe all the necessary actions in stages, thereby facilitating the process of visual perception of information:
- To begin with, we will place all the accessories on the outside of the bag: for this, spread the fabric along the entire length on a smooth surface, removing the unwanted folds and folds that have formed. Now you can attach the handles, taking them to their full length. We place them exactly in the center, leaving a distance between the slings of about 25-30 centimeters. We pin everything with pins, check the symmetry on the ruler and flash it manually or on a sewing machine. We do the same on the reverse side.
- Sew on the outside a pocket of the same color. To do this, take a blank of the rectangle, the width of which should not exceed 1/4 of our bedspread, grind the edges, bending them by 1 centimeter and attaching the pocket in advance to the base.
- It's time to place the zippers that we have already prepared in advance: we will divide them into two parts and place them on the outside of the bag. They must lie so that the side on which we are going to insert the lock faces toward the center of the product. Be sure to catch zippers with sewing pins and check the operation of the device. If everything is done correctly, then the lock will easily turn our bag into a large sunbed. Do not forget to flash the locks on a sewing machine, carefully locking the ends.
Second side
It's time to sew the second part to our sunbed. To do this, prepare the fabric, having previously laid it out on a flat surface, and sew two pockets for personal items, folding the edges.
Now we combine two parts: it is very simple to do this, since all the preparatory stages are already ready. We put these two parts on the wrong side to us, so that the front sides of both fabrics meet inside the product. Gently sew a machine seam around the perimeter of the entire bedspread, leaving one of the short sides untouched.
After that, we turn out the resulting "bag", thereby preparing it for filling. We take one of the four segments of foam, insert it into the finished product to the very end and sew the fabric next to it to fix the filler. Also, the place of stitching can be determined based on the zipper: it ends in the same place.
When the entire filler is already fixed with seams, bending the edges of the fabric, we sew the last open hole, carefully adjusting the handles of our finished mat.
Test of strength
Now that the beach cover and bag are ready at the same time, you can check the performance of our creation. Honestly, in assembled form, it is hard to believe that a couple of moments ago a beautiful beach accessory was lying under us, boldly replacing expensive purchased sun loungers.
In addition, when our locks are fastened, we have a real large and roomy handbag in which we can safely fit a bottle of water, a couple of tubes of cream, a magazine or book, a cash purse, a telephone, keys and much more that you won’t take with you in a regular rug.
A beach cover, a photo of which you can find in our article, is a great alternative to any purchased rug. And such products certainly will not cost you as profitably as a home-made option.
