Today, the Tushino airfield is located in Moscow. And in 1935, when it was put into operation, this was the town of Tushino, which belonged to Moscow Region. Tushino airfield ceased to operate passenger flights back in the 80s of the last century, and in the 90s, due to a sharp reduction in air traffic, it was completely closed. Including there was held the annual music festival "Wings" and one of the largest rock concerts in the world (1991). Also, for many years, a market existed at the airport along the Volokolamsk highway. It was this direction that decided the fate of the air transport hub.
Tushino airdrome status
Despite the closure, the Tushino airfield maintained the status of a class 3 air transport hub, that is, it was able to receive small transport and passenger ships, such as the AN-24, AN-26 and AN-30. Today, the site has class 4 and can provide takeoff and landing of light aircraft, such as the AN-2, as well as helicopters of any mass and carrying capacity. This is due primarily to the fact that the airfield has lost its qualities. The main part of the territory is swampy and during the period of heavy rainfall becomes unsuitable for exploitation. Today, a military aviation base is located here (aviation commandant's office of military unit 26399 serving transit helicopters of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation), a sports aviation base of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Russian National Aero Club Chkalova ”, organization of parachute jumping and other extreme entertainment and training aviation center.
