Do-it-yourself brick grill: step-by-step instructions, drawings and reviews

In most cases, owners of country houses install light metal barbecues on their plots. Such designs are inexpensive, but at the same time they are not particularly durable. Therefore, a much more correct solution would still be to build a more solid heavy brick grill on the site.

How to choose a place

Before embarking on the construction of such a structure, of course, you should decide on a place for it. Brick grills look quite attractive. Often they even serve as a center for landscape design of the courtyard of a country house. That is, they install braziers of brick in most cases in a conspicuous place.

Of course, to place such a structure should, among other things, also so that it was subsequently convenient to operate. It is best if the brazier is located closer to home. In this case, the owners of the site will not subsequently have problems with the delivery of water and products to it.

How to build a barbecue

However, to place the brazier, of course, is still worth it from the leeward side of the house. Otherwise, in the subsequent smoke from this design may begin to fall through the windows into the living quarters.

Of course, the brazier should be erected away from all sorts of green spaces. Smoke from the chimney of such a structure comes out quite hot. Consequently, the branches of fruit trees located next to it can be burnt.

You should not have a barbecue next to cesspools, compost heaps or, for example, animal sheds. There is a barbecue cooked in such a place, in the future, most likely, it will not be too pleasant.

Shape and dimensions

Brick braziers are being erected, using schemes of a special variety - orders. Finding such drawings is easy. The form of barbecue can have different. On suburban areas, such structures are being erected with and without chimneys, with conventional fireboxes and arched, supplemented with countertops and cauldrons, etc. It is also possible, for example, to build a brick brazier in the courtyard of a private house.

blueprint drawing

When choosing the appropriate arrangement for this particular case, structures of this type should be guided primarily by the features of the landscape design of the courtyard and take into account their own financial capabilities.

The order-drawings of brick grills can be different. On a suburban area, you can build both a small and a large structure of this type. But it is still believed that the length of the brazier should not exceed one meter. The width of this design is usually equal to 47-62 cm. It is this length that standard skewers have. Most often, homemade barbecues are laid out in a width of 2 bricks. The length of such structures in most cases is 4 bricks.

Such structures are usually built in such a way that the fryer is not too high. The most convenient are those barbecues in which this part of the structure is located at the height of the wrist of the owner of the site.

What materials will be required

Having a good order, you can build a simple and very convenient brick grill with your own hands. The instruction for the construction of such structures is not particularly difficult. In any case, it will be much easier to build a brazier than the same heating and cooking stove. However, for the construction of such a structure, of course, it will be necessary to choose suitable materials.

Building a brick barbecue

It costs the construction of brick barbecues according to the drawing-orders is usually very inexpensive. Fireclay bricks, for example, are not used in the construction of such structures. The walls of the barbecue are not heated very much during operation. Therefore, they can be laid out, including a roasting pan, from ordinary inexpensive full-bodied ceramic bricks of standard sizes.

The solution for the laying of barbecues also use ordinary cement. In its preparation, lime is additionally used as a plasticizer. Mix solutions designed for the construction of barbecues, in proportion to volume:

  • cement - 1 part;

  • sand - 3 parts;

  • lime - 4 parts.

In addition to bricks and cement, for the construction of a barbecue on a suburban area, you will need:

  • reinforcement for the foundation;

  • waterproofing agent;

  • OSB boards or slab for formwork;

  • a metal sheet.

Foundation construction

The weight of brick grills is significant. Therefore, such structures are erected exclusively on the foundation. Pour the base of the barbecue using the following technology:

  • at the place chosen for construction, marking is done using pegs and a cord;

  • dig a not too deep foundation pit;

  • pour sand at the bottom of the pit and ram it with water from a hose;

  • install formwork under the foundation;

  • on bars of about 5 cm thick, a reinforcing cage is installed;

  • fill the foundation plate.

Comfortable brick barbecue

The solution for the base of the barbecue is usually prepared in a ratio of cement / sand / crushed stone as 1/3/4. The reinforcement for the foundation of such a structure is connected using an 8 mm wire from a rod. You can also use a ready-made mesh. But such a product should be laid in the thickness of the foundation plate at least in two layers.

Base masonry

You can start building your own brick grill yourself on a foundation poured in such a way no earlier than in a month. Foundation concrete should gain sufficient strength to support the weight of the structure.

Before proceeding with the construction of the brazier, its foundation should be laid with roofing material. On top of the waterproofing, you need to lay out one row of masonry with a solid brick.

Barbecue is erected according to the chosen order. The basement of such a structure may be closed or open. In the first case, the brick is laid out on three sides of the barbecue. In the second, only two extreme support walls are erected.

More convenient are, of course, closed socles of barbecues. In such facilities, under a brazier, it is convenient to store, for example, coal, dishes or products.

Brick barbecue: step-by-step instructions for laying the frypot

The laying of the brazier base and all other parts of its design is made, of course, with dressing of the seams. They also do the alignment. Braziers roasting can be laid out using different technologies. Its bottom is sometimes a thick sheet of metal, sometimes a concrete slab.

In the latter case, between the walls of the basement of the brazier, a U-shaped formwork (on the "legs") from the OSB sheet is first installed in width. Further, with the reinforcement, the plate itself is poured. As a support for the metal sheet of the furnace, steel corners are usually embedded in the masonry.

Barbecue with arched firebox

The front wall of the brazier is most often laid out in a height of 2 bricks. When laying this part of the structure, the vertical joints are sometimes not filled with mortar. Through the crevices in the roasting pan during the preparation of the barbecue, the air necessary for smoldering coals will subsequently flow.

Chimney installation

This part of the barbecue design can, of course, be assembled from brick. However, for a person who does not have much experience as a bricklayer, such an operation may seem somewhat complicated. Indeed, unlike stove stoves, barbecue chimneys usually have a shape that tapers upward. And their laying - the procedure is actually quite complicated.

Therefore, tin chimneys are usually installed on brick braziers built by themselves. Such a design, if desired, can be purchased and a ready-made factory. But it’s better to make a tin chimney for the barbecue with your own hands.

Such a design is usually made as follows:

  • weld the frame of the dome part of the chimney from metal corners;

  • sheathe it with tin;

  • weld the rectangular frame of the pipe itself;

  • sheathe the pipe with tin;

  • fasten the dome to the barbecue using self-tapping screws;

  • they put the pipe on the dome and fasten it with rivets.

Useful extras

Very often, brick braziers built according to the order-drawings with their own hands complement tabletops. It can actually be very convenient. In this case, the assembly work of the structure is performed as follows:

  • pour a longer foundation than in the first case;

  • erect a base with the assembly of an intermediate partition;

  • in the uppermost row of the basement, bricks are laid across the walls;

  • on the ledges formed on the one side of the cap put the bottom of the brazier, and on the other - the countertop;

  • continue the erection of the barbecue, according to the selected order.

Brick barbecue in the country

In about the same way, brick braziers with a cauldron are being built with their own hands. In this case, not a solid worktop is placed on the base, but with a hole in which a metal cauldron is subsequently inserted.

How to plaster

Typically, brick barbecues do not finish additionally. However, in order to extend the service life of such a structure, it can, of course, be plastered. In this case, it is best to use glue intended for installation of aerated concrete blocks with crushed bricks added to it as a finishing mixture. Using such plaster, you can give the walls of the grill an original look and at the same time reliably protect them from the negative effects of street moisture.

Barbecue Canopy

This type of brick structure can last quite a long time. However, a variety of natural factors can negatively affect the masonry during the operation of the barbecue. To prevent this structure from collapsing ahead of time, a canopy must be built over it.

The simplest protective structures above the braziers are erected approximately according to this technology:

  • dig holes under the supporting pillars of the future canopy;

  • the supports themselves are installed (two of which should be longer than the other two) with concreting;

  • tie the supports from above with a bar;

  • connect long supports in pairs with short ones using rafters;

  • Mount the crate;

  • sheathe a canopy with a profiled sheet or metal tile.

The chimney of the barbecue in the end, of course, should be higher than the roof of the structure so assembled.

Simple brick barbecue

The easiest way to build a canopy over a barbecue, of course. But you can place a brick grill in the gazebo. In this case, the canopy just needs to be supplemented with a parapet and plank floors. In the gazebo with barbecue, of course, in the future it is worth installing a table and benches, as well as cabinets designed to store dishes.

Reviews of brick grills

The construction of such a structure is, therefore, a simple task. When erecting the barbecue, it is important to just try to make the masonry as even as possible, using the level and plumb. In this case, the finished design will be neat and will become a real decoration of the site.

The reviews of brick barbecues from summer residents deserved simply excellent. Buildings of this type, according to the owners of suburban areas, serve much longer than metal. In addition, brick barbecues just keep heat perfectly. And therefore, the kebab cooked on them is very juicy and tasty.

The owners of suburban areas also relate to the advantages of barbecues of this variety that they can be turned into barbecue at any time. To do this, just replace the skewer on the grill. Many owners of country houses during the construction of the barbecue also provide for grilling.

DIY barbecue

If, however, a gazebo is built around such a building, then, as many site owners believe, it can turn into a real family hearth, next to which it will be very pleasant to spend time and meet guests.
