This river in ancient times was of great transport importance. Important trade routes of Shuy noble merchants passed through it. Shipping stopped after the construction of dams with water mills on the river. This happened in the middle of the 17th century. It was resumed almost a hundred years later.
This is the Teza River, which is of considerable interest to lovers of tourist rafting.
History
Once upon a time, Theza was surrounded by dense forests, its waters were deep and deep. The plows (shallow-sitting flat-bottomed vessels) were not prevented by rifts and shallows. At the end of the XVII century, the owners of the banks of the Teza began to build mills on the river, blocking it, which began to impede the passage of a plow of goods through the reservoir. The inhabitants of Shui complained and ensured that the mills were destroyed by decree of the reigning then Peter, Ivan and Sophia. And yet, the owners of the mills achieved legitimization of their interests in the years 1730-1740, and the plow course on the Teze River again stopped.
Only 100 years later, shipping along Theza, after the destruction of the mills, was resumed, and this was facilitated by the rapid development of textile production in the city of Shuya, which required cheaper ways of marketing. Thanks to the long troubles of the Shui merchants, permission for shipping was obtained in 1830. However, by that time the river had become so shallow that Emperor Alexander the First, who visited Shuya, had to oblige the merchants and manufacturers of this city to build a lock system at the expense of the state treasury. In 1834, on the Theseus (from the mouth to the city of Shui), began to build wooden locks with dams and branch channels, as well as scourge bridges, gatis and office buildings. At three locks, the effect of the mills was preserved.
In June 1837, navigation was opened on the Tesa lock system in a section that was 89 km long.
It should be noted that fishing on the Teza River has always been popular.
Description
A river flows through the territory of the Ivanovo region. Thesa is the left tributary of the Klyazma River . The length of the river channel is 192 kilometers. The source is located in the Kozlovsky swamps, in the Volga region. This place is located 12 kilometers south of the Volga channel, not far from the Volga-Uvod canal.
At the source, the width of the river does not exceed 8 meters. The water stream flows among amazingly beautiful beaches, on which picturesque meadows alternate with forests. The Tesa channel is winding, and the banks gradually rise in height. The width of the Teza River after the confluence of the Parsha greatly increases, reaching in places up to 20 meters. One of the largest settlements located on the banks of the river is the city of Shuya. Also on the banks of the river are the rural settlements of Kholu, Dunilovo and Khotiml. Today, 5 dams are installed here. The first of the locks is located near the village of Sergeevo, and the last is about 2 kilometers from the mouth.
In the upper reaches the river is narrow (up to 7 meters wide), in the middle reaches it slightly widens to 10 meters, and in the lower reaches it reaches 30 meters. Below the city of Shui, the shores are more open, overgrown with willow. In the mainstream, elders and islets are observed.
The floodplain of the Teza River has a width of about 300-500 meters in the upper reaches and about 700 meters in the lower reaches. Only at the village of Kholui it reaches a width of about 6 km. This is the confluence of the river with the Klyazma floodplain. Some areas are swampy and overgrown with marsh vegetation. The floodplain during the spring flood is flooded with water up to one meter.
Tributaries
Thesa has the following tributaries: right - Sebiryanka, Salne, Molokhta, Lemeshok, Tyunykh, Vondyga (or Vyazovka), Nozyga, Sekh (White reeds); left - Under, Lulech, Granddaughter, Mardas, Scab, Postna, Mezitsa.

sights
An interesting place is the village of Kholui with magnificent ancient temple complexes located in it. Popular among tourists and rafting on the Teza River.
Under the city of Shuya is the Zmeevsky burial ground, where the burials of the Fatyanovo culture were found.
Tezinsky Shipping Cascade
Below Shui there are the same five dams with locks that have the following names: No. 5 (from the mouth 2 km), Kholuy, Khotiml, Polka and Sergeevo. Once the river in this section was passable for boats. Wooden locks built in the first half of the 19th century were used to pass ships until 1994. At the very beginning of the XXI century, adjustable concrete spillways were built on two of them.
During the years of the functioning of the lock system, the Shuya-Hotiml passenger high-speed line operated by motor ships of the Zarnitsa type operated. On the site near the city of Shui, the line was βShuya - 21st kilometerβ, serviced by a ship of the Moskvich type. Until the fall of 1993, the Tezinskaya system was on the balance of the Canal Management named after Moscow.
What fish is found in the Teza River?
Judging by the reviews of fishermen, a good catch can be obtained mainly in the upper reaches of the river. Various types of fish are found in the waters of Teza: bream, perch, ruff, scavenger, pike, carp, chub, asp, bleak, rattan, roach and roach.
The river is considered convenient for any fishing methods. It should be noted only that, due to the large volume of aquatic vegetation, fishing from shore to spinning is not very effective. On weekends, spinning crews sail in caravans to the river in motorboats and rowboats. Near the grass, where there is an even course, you can catch scavengers on a worm, and chubs on a crust of black bread. In summer, the fish walks all over the river, and in the fall - sits in the pool. In October, ruffs live in the depths, and perch is well caught on the worm off the coast. In the autumn after "summer hibernation" you can catch burbot.
