As soon as the child enters the educational institution and begins to contact with other children, the period of “exchange” of infections begins: pneumococci, streptococci, staphylococci, chlamydia, mycoplasmas, hemophilus influenzae, legionella. This is expressed in the appearance of snot of various colors and consistencies, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, otitis media. Just in the treatment of ENT organs and respiratory tract, the drug "Sumamed" is used. How to give the child it, consider below.
Azithromycin, which is the main component of this medication, is a powerful broad-profile antibiotic, available in capsules and injections for adults, in powder for suspension and tablets for children. The peculiarity of this antibiotic is that it quickly penetrates the blood (after two to three hours), but reaches a maximum concentration in tissue cells and foci of infection. Azithromycin is excreted through the intestines and kidneys after fifty hours, but its effect after the last dose lasts another five to seven days.
The drug "Sumamed": instructions for use
For children, this antibiotic is available in a powder of white or cream color with a sweetish smell that resembles a cherry with a banana. In a cardboard package, a measuring spoon, a syringe with a scale and instructions are attached. Before you dilute the medicine, read the instructions and prescription.
For example, the doctor writes that you need to give 4.5 ml for three to five days. Then for the treatment period you need 13.5-22.5 ml of antibiotic. See the instructions for how much water to add for this amount of medicine. Please note that when diluting a certain amount of the suspension, 0.5 ml is added per “loss” at the dosage, so if you need 13.5 ml, dilute Sumamed suspension into 14 ml.
The instructions for use (for children, the drug is available in powder) states that the product in tablets has a shelf life of three years, in powder - 2 years, and in diluted form - only 5 days in the refrigerator. Once you have decided on the dosage, type in a syringe of warm water and pour into a bottle of powder. Close the lid and shake until the suspension is homogeneous. Next, give the antibiotic in a measuring spoon only once a day. It does not matter in the morning or in the evening, but the main thing is that before or after taking the medicine there should be a gap of 1.5-2 hours without snacking.
