Oak tomato is an early-ripening variety of tomatoes developed by domestic breeders in the USSR specifically for vegetable farms located in Ukraine, Moldova and the southern regions of Russia. Plants can be grown both in open ground and in greenhouses, when it comes to the northern regions.
Grade description
Tomato "oak" refers to the determinant group and is considered stunted, since its height does not exceed 70 cm. The leaves are painted in light green color, and there are not too many of them on this plant. Experts advise to form bushes of this tomato variety in three or even four stems.
A branch is formed a little, so it is not necessary to pinch or tie up a plant. However, experienced gardeners say that with the appearance of the fruit, some brushes still need to be supported. By the way, the first of them begins to form only after the appearance of the seventh sheet.
The fruits of the “oak” tomato have a rounded, slightly flattened shape with a barely noticeable ribbing. Ripe tomatoes turn bright red about 95 days after the appearance of the sprouts. It can be said that the fruits never crack. The pulp of tomatoes is dense and slightly dry, tasty, with a slight acidity, the number of seeds is average. Fruit weight - about 120 g. From each bush, you can collect from 4 to 7 kg of tomatoes, depending on the climate. You can not plant plants too close to each other, otherwise this will lead to a significant decrease in productivity.
Begin picking tomatoes when they are at the stage of so-called technical maturity, while the biological comes already outside the bush for several days. Due to the dense structure of the fruit, tomatoes can retain their marketable appearance for a long time and have excellent transportability. The plant is quite resistant to most diseases inherent in this culture.
How to grow
Even sandy and heavy soils are suitable for planting the “oak” tomato, a photo of which is posted in the article. Despite the fact that the soil may not be highly fertile, it must necessarily contain a set of nutrients necessary for the normal development of the plant. Tomato is suitable for growing in open beds, in greenhouses, greenhouses, as well as on balconies and even on window sills in drawers or flower pots.
Sowing of seeds begins in March, after soaking them in a solution of potassium permanganate. You also need to disinfect the substrate, or purchase special soil for growing seedlings. Recommended sowing depth - 0.5 mm, air temperature - 22 ⁰C. Shoots may appear after 6 or 7 days. Seedlings are dived when two full leaves are formed on it. At the time of planting in the soil, it is desirable that the age of a young plant ranged from 55 to 65 days.
How to care
A sufficient amount of moisture is the main requirement for the good development of tomato "oak". However, unlike other varieties, after planting in the soil, these plants require moderate, not heavy watering. At the same time, the soil must not be allowed to completely dry.
It is imperative to spud tomatoes, as this procedure contributes to the good development of the root system. So the bush will become more powerful and resistant to various negative influences.
The key to a good harvest is regular feeding of the "oak" tomato. It is produced 1 time in 20 days. For these purposes, you can prepare your own special mixture, which should include the following components:
- a bucket of water;
- 250-260 g of wood ash;
- 1/5 bucket of manure (preferably cow);
- 45-55 g of superphosphate.
Reviews
Tomato "oak" many experienced gardeners planted for more than one year. They note that this variety has many positive qualities, among which resistance to drought and excessive moisture. It is very important that the plant is not particularly demanding on the quality of the soil, but nevertheless gives a good harvest and is characterized by a fairly long fruiting.
It has excellent immunity, which makes the tomato resistant to many diseases, including late blight of fruits, leaves and stems, as well as bacterial mold and most harmful insects.
Almost everyone says about the unpretentiousness of the plant, but some say that it needs a relatively constant temperature. Too sharp and frequent drops have a negative impact on both the growth and yield of this variety.
