There are many tips for those who are just starting to learn crochet. They relate to the choice of tool, yarn and model for the first product.
Essential for the entire project is the selection of a pattern. A crochet pattern can be limited to several rows or an entire page. The main thing is that the craftswoman liked the pattern, and she was passionate about the process, it always helps in the development of new activities.
Crochet for beginners: patterns and their types
Given the difference in the appearance of the patterns, as well as on the basis of the ways in which they need to be knitted, several main patterns are distinguished:
- Dense.
- Fishnet.
- Direct.
- Circular.
- Whole.
- Typesetting.
Thick patterns are suitable for the manufacture of warm products or accessories: scarves, coats, bags, rugs.
Openwork is used if you need to knit a summer or elegant product. We can safely say that often the scheme for crocheting is an instruction for creating just an openwork fabric.
Speaking of a direct pattern, it is implied that it is connected in even rows (direct and reverse) by one or more ornaments without tearing off the thread.
At the same time, circular patterns begin, as a rule, from the center of the canvas and gradually expand. Rows in such patterns can be direct and reverse or spiral (only front).
The difference between one-piece and one-piece patterns is that the first consists of one part, and the second of several. Motives, fragments and elements of typesetting canvases can be round, square, abstract or any other shape.
What you need to know before you get started
Trying to understand the basics of crocheting, you can easily get confused if you do not know what the symbols on the patterns symbolize. There is nothing complicated, however, you will have to familiarize yourself with the instructions that describe the implementation of the basic elements. You can even practice knitting them before proceeding with the manufacture of any particular thing.
So, to facilitate crocheting for beginners, the diagrams below contain a breakdown of the most common characters.
Abbreviations are used here:
- VP - air loop.
- RLS - SC.
- CCH, C2H, C3H - double crochet (with one, two, three or more).
- PLC - a half-column.
The easiest crochet pattern
Since this article is intended for beginners in the field of crocheting, it is worthwhile to dwell on the description of one of the simplest and most convenient patterns for learning.
Operating procedure:
- A set of VPs for the first row. Their number should be a multiple of two, since the size of the rapport is exactly two loops. The report is indicated in blue on the diagram.
- The first row is formed by CCHs, which are interspersed by VP. The very first CCH should be knitted in the seventh VP, and then between the neighboring CCH one base VP should be skipped.
- The next row also includes CCHs and EPs, but in a different order. Now, at the top of each first-row COS, you need to knit CCH, VP, then CCH again. Two CCHs with a common base form a small "bush".
Further growth of the canvas will be formed by the successive alternation of the first and second row. This crochet pattern allows you to change the colors of the thread used, and is also convenient for cuts and additions at the edges. The uneven edge of the fabric may be required in the manufacture of clothing with a fitted silhouette, armhole and neck.
Additions are formed by knitting an additional column at the beginning or at the end of a row, and reductions - when combining two columns.
What to tie a beginner
The answer will not be original, the optimal model is a scarf. The benefits are obvious:
- Smooth product without additions or reductions.
- The rapid growth of the fabric and the visible result, which always motivates even experienced knitters.
- The ability to work out all the necessary skills (knitting the main columns, maintaining a uniform density, accurate knitting).
- Reducing the risk of making global mistakes. All defects are easily corrected.
Given the pluses described, the scarf is versatile to practice crocheting. Patterns and models of different scarves can be easily found in needlework magazines. It is better to choose a two-sided pattern, since the visible inside is undesirable for such a product.
Any scarf is a rectangle, so you need to dial loops to make a row of a certain width and knit up until the product is ready.
At the final stage, it is tied with one or several rows of scs or "crustacean step".
When the first steps are taken and the initial crochet is mastered, patterns and models for further work can be selected more difficult. For example, you can try to knit such a poncho cape.
Her canvas also represents a large rectangle, folded and partially stitched on one side. Detailed crochet patterns are not needed here, since you can simply use CCH.
