Do you know that there are two types of powdery mildew: real and false? Powdery mildew on a rose is due to a fungal pathogen. It usually appears around the second half of summer. The first signs of the disease are a whitish bloom on the buds, the leaves begin to wrap, become thinner and begin to turn red. If no measures are taken to eliminate this disease, a white coating gradually covers the entire plant and becomes a dense gray color.
Powdery mildew on a rose inhibits plant growth. It can occur due to a
lack of calcium in the soil or due to a large amount of nitrogen. In greenhouses, roses are affected by this disease due to poor ventilation and lack of lighting.
The control of powdery mildew should be carried out immediately, when the first signs of the disease occur. To do this, use spraying with special preparations containing sulfur, use a solution of soda, in which soap is added, or apply fundozole.
In the fall, prevention is carried out. Fallen leaves are collected and burned, and the soil is dug up. In spring, when the buds swell, rose bushes are sprayed with 3 percent iron sulfate.
Now let's look at such a thing as downy mildew. This disease is characterized by the presence of specific spots on the upper side of the leaves, as well as peduncles. The spots are brown, red or
dirty purple. Gradually, the leaves become brown and dry.
On the underside of the leaves, mold spots can be seen.
Powdery mildew on a rose leads to leaf falling, the shoots begin to decay and then die. This disease is a danger to flowers that are indoors, in open ground roses carry the disease more easily. This disease occurs due to high humidity, significant changes in temperature during the day and night.
The powdery mildew remedy is, first of all, prevention. Fallen leaves and affected shoots must be collected and burned, the soil should be treated with special preparations.
When the first signs of the
disease occur, the
plants are sprayed using drugs such as Bordeaux liquid, cuprosan, and dithan.
Powdery mildew on a rose can appear immediately in two manifestations, real and false. To combat these diseases, it will be effective to use sulfur with M-45 dithan.
Even if roses have never been affected by powdery mildew in your area, it will still be very useful to carry out prophylaxis. In order to exclude the disease of flowers, in shady places seedlings that are most resistant to this disease should be planted. It is better to water and spray flowers in the morning, then excess moisture will have time to evaporate in a day. In addition, there should be a certain distance between the rose bushes. Bushes should not grow in close contact with each other. Plants should be fed in strictly defined proportions.
