A yoke is a piece of clothing that differs from the details of the front, back and sleeves by the cut, pattern or texture of the material. Sweaters, cardigans, dresses, skirts and many other wardrobe items are decorated with coquettes. This technique is extremely popular both in the sewing world and in the realm of knitters.
Of course, in order to connect the product with a yoke, this part does not need to be performed separately and connected to the main fabrics: such clothes are knitted with a single piece from the bottom up or in the opposite direction. In the first case, the craftswoman performs sequential contraction of loops to form the neck. When a round yoke is knitted with knitting needles from above, the canvas, on the contrary, expands.
Differences of a round yoke from a regular one
Consider the algorithm for creating a product with a classic extension on top:
- Loops are knitted for knitting the neck.
- Four areas are marked in which the addition of new elements will be performed.
- Loops are made by knitting yarn or they are formed from broaches.
- In each front row, the canvas expands by eight elements (in four places, one loop before and after the marked element).
The finished coquette has a square shape and distinct raglan lines.
Along with this, a round yoke with knitting needles on top is as follows:
- Set of loops for rollout.
- The uniform addition of eight loops along the length of the entire row.
- In the future, the formation of eight new elements in each front row in a checkerboard pattern.
As a result, the round yoke with knitting needles on top has no raglan angles and lines.

This method is used in cases where you want to get a feminine and smooth silhouette. The disadvantage of this technique is that it is extremely difficult to fit a pattern into such a design. Due to the fact that the number of loops is constantly changing, only skilled artisans can calculate the ornament.
Modern designers meet the interests of knitters and offer them ready-made patterns for coquette. In these schemes, the principle of expansion is already laid down and lovers of original products can only strictly follow the instructions.
Round yoke with knitting needles on top: jacquard pattern and sweater pattern

Unfortunately, the designer used icons to encode shades, so a description of the characters is necessary:
- The cross is dark pink.
- Empty cell - light beige.
- The circle is the color of ocher.
- The hyphen is gray (pearl shade).
- The black triangle in the upper left corner of the cell is an olive.
- The asterisk is dull turquoise.
- The black square is garnet.
- The black circle is coral.
- The triangle enclosed in the cell is orange.
Vertical ovals in black indicate the places where loops are added. It should be borne in mind that knitting a round yoke with knitting needles from above implies the formation of new elements only from broaches between two adjacent loops. In this case, there will be no openwork holes in these places.
Jacquards and their features
Many craftswomen know that it is not as easy to make a jacquard ornament as it might seem at first glance. Here you need to choose the yarn of the same type and thickness, otherwise there will be a mismatch in the densities.
It is also necessary to carefully pull the threads on the wrong side of the canvas. If they are tightened, the pattern is deformed and the round yoke knitting from above will be damaged. When the threads are too loose, they sag and the jacquard literally “spreads out” in front of the eyes. Some publications offer craftswomen to pull a sagging thread every 3-4 loops, picking it up with a working thread. However, the use of this technique can lead to the appearance of unplanned colored dots on the canvas.
It is for these reasons that developers use no more than three colors at a time when creating patterns. Moreover, the ornament itself consists of individual stripes.
