Puncture under the road: method and cost. Is it possible to puncture the soil under the road with your own hands?

Very often there is a need to lay various communications under the carriageway or railway track. The technology to do this is called “puncture under the road” and most often is drilling in the horizontal direction. This method has clear advantages over other types of communications. Unlike the trench device, a puncture under the road does not violate the integrity of the road surface and does not damage the green spaces. In addition, it is not required to carry out a large amount of excavation work. This method is known as trenchless laying of communications.

What you need for an independent puncture device under the road

Doing a puncture under the road with your own hands is a doable task. Moreover, its length should not exceed ten meters. Before you begin, prepare everything you need. You will need:

  • Bulgarian;
  • large heavy hammer or sledgehammer;
  • strong steel bars, the length of which in aggregate exceeds the width of the road by 10-20 cm;
  • pump, hose and funnel;
  • large capacity for water for 100-200 liters;
  • pieces of steel pipeline, the total length of which exceeds the width of the carriageway by 15-20 cm;
  • apparatus for welding.

Operational Procedure

First you need to dig small pits on both sides of the road. Their depth should be greater than the depth of the pipe. From one pit, the pipe will move deeper into the ground. The second pit will be receiving.

Using a steel bar, outline the path of the pipeline. Using a grinder, sharpen one end of the pin and begin to hammer it into the ground as the future pipeline lies. So that the rod does not bend from impacts, its length should not exceed 1.5-2 meters. Having driven in one segment, weld the next pin to its end and hammer it again. Continue to work until the tip of the first segment appears in the receiving pit.

Now you can start the main work. On the axial rod, put on the first section of the pipeline, the front edge of which is treated with a grinder, giving it the shape of a pointed crown. This will provide easier entry into the ground. Put a steel cup on the other side of the pipe and start hitting it with a sledgehammer.

Then immerse the pump in a barrel of water, and push the hose into the pipe to the end. The water pressure performs the function of lubrication and facilitates the movement of steel, and also contributes to the leaching of waste soil from the pipe.

All subsequent work consists in the alternation of two actions - washing the soil with water and pushing the pipeline with a hammer. Continue until the first pipe section appears in the pit on the opposite side of the road.

As you can see, making a puncture under the road with your own hands is not so difficult. The result should be a hollow pipe with the same guide rod inside. This pin can now be easily removed, since water washed all the soil out during operation. Use the resulting pipeline as a case for holding a second sealed pipe of smaller diameter.

If the length of the planned communication exceeds 10 meters, then contacting specialists will be a more rational option.

Do-it-yourself puncture under the road

Horizontal directional drilling method

This method of puncture under the road is to create a pilot horizontal well or through hole of a given diameter, into which a case or pipe for communications is drawn. HDD is never carried out on dry ground. During the drilling process, a constant supply of water is made in order to make the soil more plastic and supple, and also to prevent the collapse of the walls of the resulting well. After the hole is created, a pipeline is drawn into it. To do this, on the one hand, a special tip or cap is put on it, which is firmly fixed. On the other side of this case is a drill fixed. Using special equipment installed on the opposite side of the road, the pipe is drawn into the puncture. After completion of work, a small part of the pipeline, on which the pulling cap was fixed, is cut off. Based on this, it is necessary to calculate its length with a margin. The extension of the communication pipe is also accompanied by a supply of water for better sliding along the well.

Method Advantages

The method of horizontal directional drilling saves time and labor resources, since when using it there is no need to dismantle the asphalt or concrete pavement of the road. This method does not have a destructive effect on the natural landscape. The HDD method can be used in a variety of conditions - under highways, under water, under parkland, railways and other facilities. It is advantageous to use this type of trenchless drilling in the economic sense.

The cost of a puncture under the road

Guided puncture

The site on which it is planned to puncture the soil under the road is previously investigated. After this, a project is created in accordance with which the horizontal well is safely drilled along the planned path with all possible obstacles being circumvented. The drilling machine is equipped with a special blade with a cutting nozzle. A location system probe is built into it, which allows you to precisely control the movement of the drill, the direction and depth of the future pipeline. The position of the probe is monitored by a specialist with a locator, moving along the road surface and observing the readings of the locator monitor. The person driving the drilling machine also receives all the necessary information for the accuracy of the manipulation. To prevent shedding of the well, its walls can be treated with a special mixture of clay and polymeric substances. Such a lubricant is called concrete.

Service cost

What is the cost of a puncture under the road? The price level depends on several factors. Managed puncture using location equipment will cost more than unmanaged. If you need to lay a short pipeline, then an ordinary drilling machine, not equipped with a system for tracking the trajectory of the drill, will cope with this work. The device of a long well, on the contrary, requires constant monitoring and adjustment using a location device. Russian companies offer services for creating a puncture under the road at prices from 1000 rubles per linear meter, which is usually cheaper than open ways of laying communications under the roadway.

Whatever type of communications you need to create, whether it be pipes for water or gas, cases for electric or fiber optic cables, a puncture under the road is the best way to do this quickly and reliably.
