Clivia is a very beautiful houseplant. Its leaves are belt-shaped, dark green in color. It blooms with white, yellow, orange inflorescences, collected on the arrow, towering above the leaves. Although clivia is a very unpretentious flower, but when caring for it, as well as for the appearance of beautiful inflorescences, it is necessary to adhere to some important conditions.
Climatic conditions
1. Temperature
Clivia does not need high temperatures. In winter, it should be kept in a cool room at a temperature of fifteen degrees (if it does not bloom) and at eighteen degrees during flowering. In the summer, it is carried out in shady places: in the garden or on the balcony.
2. Lighting
In spring and summer, the flower needs diffused light. It grows very well on the windows and balconies of the western and northern sides, as well as in shady areas of the garden. In winter, it can be kept in a bright room.
Care Features
1. Watering
Improper watering can cause clivia to not bloom. From spring to autumn, it is abundantly watered. In late autumn and during flowering, very careful and moderate watering is needed. In winter, when keeping the plant in a cool room, it is watered from a watering can or spray. If the air temperature is above +20 degrees, clivia needs more watering.
2. The soil
In the earthen mixture should be present sand (1 part), leaf soil (4 parts), turf land (8 parts). During active growth, fertilizing with special fertilizers is necessary, which is applied once a week. When opening flowers, clivia is fed with mineral fertilizers after 21 days. But at the same time they make sure that a lot of nitrogen is not introduced, since its excess is the main reason why clivia does not bloom.
3. Transplant
A transplant can be done only after flowering, and only if the roots of the plant begin to crawl out of the flower. At the same time, old plants are replanted every 3-5 years, and young ones every year. Since the roots of clivia are very fragile and easily rot when damaged, transplant the plant with extreme caution.
4. Reproduction
There are two ways to reproduce: by seed and by transplanting young plants.
But even if the above conditions are met, there may be several main reasons why clivia does not bloom:
1. Frequent rearrangement of the flower. This plant really does not like changing places. The pot is always placed that side to the light, as it stood before.
2. Transplant into a very large pot. The root system must completely fill the tank, as it is adapted to store moisture. Therefore, transplantation is desirable only if the roots are no longer placed in the pot.
3. A flower can βskipβ a dry and cool dormant period, which is the main reason why clivia does not bloom in spring.
4. If at the stage of bud formation the plant stood for a long time in a cool place, and the watering was insufficient, then the flower stalk βstuckβ inside the foliage.
5. Nitrogen overfilling is something that clivia also does not tolerate. Buying good mineral fertilizers is not enough. You must still be able to properly breed them.
