Ipomoea: growing and caring

Who is not familiar with this extraordinary, pleasing to the eye, magnificent plant! These beautiful flowers, similar to gramophones, from childhood were remembered by everyone for their rainbow blossoms. But not everyone knows that these delicate flowers, called morning glory, bloom for only one day, and even that is not complete. Only on a cloudy day can the flower last until the evening. Ipomoea, the cultivation of which does not require special knowledge, is often used to decorate fences, arbors, balconies. And if you put all your love for this plant during planting, morning glory will answer with the same gratitude.

Do not think long about how to grow morning glory. It is enough to give her maximum attention and a little patience, and the result will not be long in coming. Many grow morning glory seedlings. The most suitable time for planting seedlings is the end of March or the beginning of April. In order for the seeds to swell, they must first be soaked, otherwise morning glory, the cultivation of which takes a considerable period of time, may not live up to expectations.

Since this is a very fragile plant, you should dwell in more detail on how to plant morning glory. In order to maintain the integrity of the stem, you should stick a thin twig in the pot, which is a support for the future sprout. Such twigs need to have according to the number of sprouts, so that they do not become entangled with each other, otherwise it will be impossible to untangle them. In the process of growth, the plant needs to be transplanted a couple of times into larger pots. But you need to do this carefully, keeping a lump of earth on the spine. Planting morning glory on a permanent place in open ground should be done by mid-June, when you can not be afraid of frost.

Morning glory, the cultivation and care of which must be done with some knowledge in this area, prefers fertilized and well-loosened soil. The place should be quiet, without wind and not very sunny, otherwise this circumstance shortens the already short lifespan of morning glory flower.

Ipomoea needs to be planted at a distance of about ten centimeters between plants, and it is advisable to use different varieties. In advance, you need to take care of the support, since the plant is winding and subsequently forms a beautiful flowering leaf. The soil must be fed with certain mineral fertilizers every ten to fifteen days, until the plant is well rooted. Regular watering is required.

There are perennial types of morning glory. Shoots of these species are pruned and leave about ten centimeters long. Morning glory Ipomoea can not tolerate. At temperatures below seven to thirteen degrees, the aboveground part may die.

Ipomoea can be propagated directly by sowing seeds in open ground. This process is best done in the second half of May. Two to three seeds, previously soaked in water for a day, are placed in the hole. Soaking seeds in hot water (up to fifty degrees) is also allowed two to four hours before planting. Ipomoea sprouts at eighteen to twenty degrees. Sprouts appear in the range from six to fourteen days.

Morning glory propagates with the help of cuttings, layering, division of rhizomes.

The height of morning glory can reach three meters. It blooms from June to September, but only if all the nuances of planting and care are observed correctly.

There is also a sky-blue morning glory, the cultivation of which requires more attention.

Seeds of this species are most active, so they must be soaked for twelve hours. Sowing seedlings should be done in February or early March. Sprouts need to be protected from direct sunlight. If the sprouts begin to fade, they need to be put temporarily away from the window. They can be planted in the ground at the end of April.

The main thing to remember is that the morning glory flower opens only for one day or even less, therefore, the more thoroughly and correctly the care of this plant is, the more beautiful and plentiful its flowering will be.
