Houses with a couple of floors are almost always in great demand among our fellow citizens. Only until recently, only a select few could afford such a construction, while the rest, in the best case, had to be content with an attic. Today, a two-story house does not surprise anyone. Of course, the costs of such a house are many, but it is definitely worth it. And therefore, today the question of whether the attic or the second floor - which is better for the construction, many beginner builders are asking.
Despite your choice, it is advisable to prepare in advance for significant financial injections, since in both cases a lot of money will be required. However, today we’ll talk about how to make the option of a two-story house a little more profitable.
So, the attic or the second floor? The “budget” option is the superstructure project over the old one-story house. Of course, for starters, it will be necessary to properly strengthen the floors and foundation, since they are unlikely to be designed for such loads. Overlappings are best used panel, since monolithic slabs of concrete your construction is unlikely to withstand.
If you decide to use this method of building a two-story mansion, then inside the second floor it will be better to build walls and ceilings from drywall. If you think that the construction of the attic will be better in this case, then you are mistaken. In the debate about which is better: the attic or the second floor, supporters of the first option forget that they will have to completely redo the roof and again strengthen the foundation, which is in no way cheaper. However, back to our walls and ceilings.
As a result of their replacement, the load on the supporting structures will be almost halved. As you can understand, it is advisable to change the roof in both cases. In this case, it is better to choose roofing material or shingles for roofing material.
Ceramic tile is definitely not suitable, since its weight is excessive for more durable buildings. This should be taken into account when preparing the design of the second floor. Attic in this respect is even more “picky”, as they will have to choose a
flexible tile. The fact is that sleeping under a
roof from a corrugated board in the rain is still a pleasure.
The insulation of this kind of housing should also be thought out as carefully as possible. Pay special attention to the roof, because a huge amount of heat can escape through the attic and floors. It is better to organize coal or gas heating, as other types of fuel will be simply unprofitable in your case. Of course, that will have to shell out money for a complete replacement of the entire heating system.
Sandwich panels are ideal for wall insulation, because with all their excellent thermal insulation qualities they are lightweight. In addition, they can not be painted or finished, as the appearance of this material will be good without that. Heat preservation is largely related to the quality of windows, so there is no need to save on double-glazed windows. This is especially important in our climate.
So, the attic or the second floor? The photos in our article make it clear that both options are good. For example, not everyone likes to live in an attic with sloping ceilings. Others believe that only a two-story house will show their social status. In short, the answer to the question: attic or second floor, depends only on your preferences, because for subjective reasons different people will prefer different options.
