Today, more and more people in the interior design prefer natural and environmentally friendly materials. Wall paneling with wood panels not only has a beautiful and expensive appearance, but if properly processed, it can cause a feeling of noble antiquity. This technique is called brushing and is gaining more and more popularity every year.
What is a brushed clapboard?
To begin with, we should give the concept of the lining itself, because many have not yet come across this name. In fact, there is nothing complicated and intricate.
Lining is a covering material which is made of various materials. But the most appreciated, of course, are models made of natural wood. Individual lining are connected using a certain mechanism, reminiscent of parquet laying.
As for the brushing technology itself, it is it that makes the lining unique. The process itself is quite time-consuming and requires special attention and patience. First you need to dry the tree, and then using special tools remove the soft layer of wood. This creates the effect of antiquity. Artificial scuffs look very beautiful and give the wooden coating the effect of high cost and aristocracy.
Material matters
Brushed lining (photo below) can be made from different types of wood. Coniferous and deciduous are most often used. Products made of oak, cedar, larch and linden are very popular. But in the pursuit of the high cost of material, many often do not pay due attention to their characteristics.
So, oak and linden are subject to fading, which will make the effect short-lived, although this is precisely what becomes the main point when choosing lining. Also, many types of linden and cedar do not tolerate temperature extremes, high humidity. As a result, the process of decay can begin, and all labors will be in vain. Therefore, if you opted for such a material, you should not use it in baths, saunas, garages and other rooms with unstable thermal and hydraulic conditions.
Therefore, the most often used brushed lining of larch. It is strong enough, not subject to mechanical damage and does not fade in the sun. Such material will serve you for many years and will not lose its original appearance. Despite this strength, larch lends itself well to brushing. It does not deform under the influence of water or heat. This is a great option for arranging living quarters, baths, garages and even basements.
Level of quality
For convenience, when choosing a particular model, the lining was divided into 4 main types, depending on the quality of the wood and the complexity of the work.
- Extra class. Brushed lining of this class is characterized by impeccable quality of materials and work. You will not find any defects here. Everything looks beautiful and harmonious.
- A-class. It is also distinguished by high rates of wood, but provides for the presence of a living knot on 1.5 meters of the length of the product. It should be noted that this does not spoil the appearance, and in some cases even gives a special charm.
- B-class. Unlike the previous category, it already provides for the presence of 4 knots, as well as minor damage. One contrasting spot is also allowed. This type of processing looks quite natural, but is not suitable for elegant rooms.
- C class. Many do not even consider this category, since they believe that a brushed lining of this class is a real marriage. There are a lot of all sorts of damage, shortcomings. Such a board looks extremely rude and unpresentable. Therefore, many try to bypass it.
