In March 1998, President Nursultan Nazarbayev, at a meeting to prepare for the year of national unity, proposed the creation of the National Museum of Kazakhstan in Astana. Preparatory work for the implementation of the project began immediately, and after sixteen years he received the first visitors. The National Museum was inaugurated in the presence of the President on July 2, 2014.
