When repairing an apartment, gypsum board is inferior in popularity only to wallpaper. The size of the drywall plays an important role in its selection, since the installation technology and the convenience of the finish finish depend on them.
Types of Drywall
Depending on the thickness of the drywall sheet (GKL) and its properties (moisture resistant, fireproof, universal), three main directions of its application are distinguished: ceiling, wall and arched. GCR types are also distinguished by the type of edge (straight, semicircular, rounded or thinned), which is usually indicated in the marking of the sheet.
It is advisable to finish various surfaces from different types of gypsum coatings, which have not only different thicknesses, but also different lengths. Moreover, the standard size of drywall provides a single width for all types of gypsum plasterboard - 1.2 meters.
Sizes of various types of drywall
In order to easily and accurately make repairs, you need to know the size of drywall designed for different sites. For example, for the installation of shelves or niches, it is better to use the smallest sheets, and for the installation of arches or radius bends on the ceilings - the thinnest.
The most flexible and elastic is arched drywall, having a sheet thickness of only 6.5 millimeters. With it, round, semicircular, curved openings are sheathed.
Drywall wall is most in demand today, since the standard size of the drywall sheet, 12.5 mm wide, is suitable both for installation on walls and for the installation of internal partitions, boxes, niches, shelves.
The greatest controversy among repairmen arises about the thickness of the ceiling gypsum board. It is clear that I want to reduce the weight of the ceiling structure, save on profiles, which is why most people use GKL sheets 9 mm thick for the ceiling. But manufacturers argue that it is more reasonable to put a wall sheet on the ceiling.
How drywall dimensions affect the weight of the structure
Although the sizes of drywall are offered in a wide assortment, standard sheets of 6.5 (9.5 or 12.5) x120x2500 (2700, 3000 or 3300) mm are still more in demand. However, manufacturers also offer non-standard sizes: small sheets exactly exactly half the standard size 1200x600x12.5 mm, which are convenient for working on walls of different heights, or with an increased thickness of 18, 20 and even 24 mm, which are used in rooms requiring increased wear resistance and strength.
For the installation of partitions, it is better to take sheets of longer lengths, manufacturers offer lengths of drywall sizes up to 4.8 meters. For radius partitions, experts advise using two layers of 9.5 mm sheets.
When covering walls and ceilings of gypsum plasterboard, it is often necessary to know how many sheets will be needed and what the weight of the structure will be. The table shows the data for a standard wall sheet.

If the ceiling is calculated, then, for example, 3 m 2 of ceiling from a standard 9.5 mm sheet will weigh five kilograms less. Accordingly, the entire structure will be easier.
