Silk ribbon embroidery is historically a very rich type of craft. With a certain stretch, one can take for its sources the connecting “seams” with leather ribbons on the skins of primitive people. And if they could, then a modern person who is interested in this type of needlework simply cannot fail. Moreover, rather simple seams and elementary techniques are used for such embroidery.
What materials and tools are needed to make embroidery with ribbons for beginners as simple and comfortable as possible? First of all, you will need a hoop corresponding to the selected size of the diameter picture. They are wooden and plastic. What material they are made of - it does not matter, the main thing is to be comfortable and so that the fabric sandwiched between their rings does not slip.
- The base fabric on which to study is canvas or a rare weave of linen and burlap. These fabrics have a loose structure and large cells between the threads into which the silk ribbon will easily slip.
- Set of needles. For such a basis, tapestry needles with a large eye and with a rounded end will be convenient, which will easily spread the threads without damaging them. Ordinary sewing needles for a mouline thread will also be required to fasten ribbons or to sew decorative beads and beads.
- A set of ribbons. Stitching with ribbons for beginners should be carried out with a thinner artificial braid with a width of 3 to 12 mm. As you master the basic techniques, you can switch to the use of natural silk and chiffon ribbons and to embroidery on a more dense weave fabric.

From ancient times, bed linen, bedspreads and pillowcases were decorated with such ornaments; festive clothing, hats, gloves and umbrellas; satin shoes and even felt boots. Today, a decorative direction is popular, for example, embroidery with ribbons of a picture or holiday decoration in this gift wrapping technique. The mix of tapes of different widths and textures and the presence on the panel of others, for example, drawn elements, look especially impressive.
