It is not often that an author can combine, on the one hand, a small volume, and on the other hand, a deep meaning. Not all stories correspond to these two parameters at once. In this sense, reading fairy tales, for example, Andersen or Garshin, is a particular pleasure. The Tale of the Toad and the Rose attracted our attention today. We’ll talk about her.
Rose among the general desolation
A fairy tale immediately begins as a parable. In a small flower garden, a beautiful rose blossomed in front of the village house. This was also surprising because no one had been dealing with the flower garden for a long time. And no one expected such an unexpected appearance of such a beautiful plant.
One of the main characters of the work “The Tale of the Toad and the Rose” was born in May. The desire to live overwhelmed her, and if the newcomer to the world could somehow show her feelings, then she would cry from the fullness and joy of being.
Of course, no heart-touching story can do without some confrontation between good and evil. In our tale, good is Rosa, and evil is Toad.
Toad notices Rosa
Let's get back to the plot. Of course, as we know, in places of desolation a lot of all kinds of abominations are bred. Here, too, the rose was not left alone by the author. Her toad (or antipair) was a toad. For some time in the work “The Tale of the Toad and the Rose,” the nasty animal does not notice a beautiful flower, and everyone lives well. But the Toad saw Rosa and ... fell in love. And in her most gentle voice, she said: "I will eat you up." She thus showed the subject of her adoration the ultimate degree of love and devotion. Rosa, of course, did not imagine how deep the feelings of the Toad were, and therefore she was afraid that she would really be eaten and she would disappear just like that.
Attempts Toads to take possession of a flower
For the Toad, owning a beautiful creature has become a real fix idea. She tried to get to Rosa. Fortunately, in addition to the flower, the plant also had sharp thorns, which served as a "security system". They threw the vile creature from the beautiful creation of God. But the Toad did not leave attempts, she just hid for a while and decided to get the flower in another way.
Those who read Garshin's essay (“The Tale of the Toad and the Rose” is meant) will say: “And where is the boy? Was there a boy? ” Yes, that is right. We turn to it, especially since this is a very important part of the story.
Boy and flower garden
The flower garden was not always so hopelessly lonely and abandoned. Last year, a boy visited him, sat there and read a book, enjoying the wonderful company of plants and insects. Once even a hedgehog wandered into the flower garden. At first he was afraid of the boy, but then got used to his company and even drank milk from the master's platter. The young man was very happy that the prickly beast accepted him as his brother. In general, the boy considered the flower garden to belong to him, because nobody needed him anymore.
When sister Masha invited her brother to play with the ball, instead of reading books in the flower garden, he told her that he would rather stay here. And now, a year later, he was lying in bed seriously ill. According to the forecasts of doctors, he did not have much time left. Now his sister was reading him a book aloud when he was awake. Another girl was quietly crying about the fate of her unhappy younger brother when the boy did not see her. Such a story was written by V.M. Garshin. The Tale of the Toad and the Rose turned out to be a very sad work.
Toad stays out of work, and Rose fulfills a great mission
If the reader remembers, then we left the Toad when it, all wounded after another attempt to get to the flower, fell to the ground. The nasty beast did not give up and decided to get to the beautiful creature through other neighboring plants. At the same time, Rosa, who was slightly naive and frivolous, thought that the Toad was behind her, and had completely forgotten about her.
However, one fine sunny day, when the charm of Rosa became almost blinding, she saw a Toad on a nearby branch. The persistent beast was left at hand (that is, a paw) to the desired beauty. Here, of course, Garshin's work “The Tale of the Toad and the Rose” makes the reader nervous and wonder: “Well, can evil conquer, and the Toad will succeed?” Calm down, dear reader, remember the genre of composition and do not worry. In the real world evil can conquer, but never in a fairy tale!
When the Toad was ready to make the last jump, the boy suddenly woke up and called the girl Masha:
- Sister, you said that the roses bloomed. Can I have one?
“Of course, my dear, of course,” the young woman answered.
Masha looked out the window and saw a wonderful rose in the flower garden. Armed with scissors, the girl went outside. Going to the flower, she quickly found a toad, shook it to the ground and kicked the toe of her shoe. I would like to say that the Toad, like evil in general, flew to another galaxy, but this did not happen. She flew far enough so that she would no longer be remembered. The rose, in turn, was cut off and served a good cause: when the boy saw her, he smiled sincerely for the last time in his life, and then fell silent forever.
At the funeral of the sufferer there were many flowers, but only a rose from a flower garden attracted general attention. It was her sister who had recently deceased sprinkled with her tears. And the flower, even though it was cut, felt more beautiful than ever.
Further, the author reports that the plant was kept in a thick book, and then a rose was presented to him. That is how he learned the whole story. Such a fairy tale about a toad and a rose. A summary was presented to the reader. Now we just need to analyze it. Let's start with the heroes.
The main and secondary characters
The main intrigue of the work is twisted in the space between the toad and the rose. May the readers forgive us, but right away, so as not to waste time, we rush into the abyss of analysis of the work.
Rose means in the tale the bright triad of Good-Beauty-Truth. The toad is a personified evil. A boy is a will to live or a will to live. And sister Masha is fate. Thus, if you translate the text into the language of symbols, it turns out that he arranges the battle between good and evil in his work V.M. Garshin. The Tale of the Toad and the Rose (a summary also confirms this idea) tells us something like the following. Despite the fact that evil is better equipped in the world, it has more advanced devices, good still wins. And this is surprising, for he has nothing but beauty. In fact, good also wins because the Higher power (God, Fate) and life itself are fighting on its side.
If we consider the work through the prism of such an interpretation, it turns out the following: the main characters here are Toad and Rose, and the secondary ones are a sick, but a good boy and his sister Masha. It is important that the interpretations may be different, but the characters in "Tales of Toad and Rose" will remain the same.
Folk wisdom and works of Garshin
In fact, as in any fairy tale, there is perfect scope for the imagination of the one who reads. Therefore, each arsenal of proverbs can have its own. But few readers will argue that when you observe the confrontation of the main characters, the proverb (to the Tale of the Toad and the Rose) immediately comes to mind: “Not a Hat for Senka”. It means that a person does not get involved in his own business, begins something without having special abilities for this.
For example, let's say the Toad really fell in love with Rose with all her heart. The reader sees that nothing good comes of this. This is because the Toad (in Garshin’s work) does not have a heart, it has only a stomach. She can only "gobble up", but not fall in love.
“Do not dig another hole”
This is not to say that such a scenario is impossible in life. For example, a man with all his might wants to “drown” another, but in the end he himself falls into his own trap. Then people say: "Do not dig another hole." This happened with the long-suffering evil Toad in the composition of Garshin. She climbed and climbed to Rosa. Her thorns were punctured to the point of blood, but she still wanted to “eat up” the flower, no matter what. Then Masha came and kicked her shoe very far. Let us leave for a while the poor, evil, uneducated Toad alone and talk about Rosa. But at the behest of fate, Rosa made a dizzying career, although the reason, admittedly, was rather sad. In addition, this same “career” helped the flower not to disappear in the jaws of the voracious toad.
People say “Where it was born, it came in handy” with different intonations. Now, when it is necessary to be “mobile” and “effective,” this popular wisdom is perceived rather negatively than positively, although there is nothing wrong with it. She simply states the fact that a man found a job for himself in the place where he was lucky to be born. The same thing happened with Rosa, about whom Garshin wrote ("The Tale of the Toad and the Rose"). The proverb that we quoted earlier seems to fully reflect some sense of the work of the Russian classic. We pass to the response to the fairy tale.
Feedback
Reviews can be varied in content and meaning. Filling them depends on the level of training of the writer. For example, if a child writes a review of a fairy tale (from 7 to 13 years old), then he will see in it only the opposition of good and evil, how beautiful the first and disgusting second. Perhaps he will also fix the fact that good is protected by fate and life.
Accordingly, we can say that the fairy tale was pleasant, because good triumphs in it, and evil "falls on the belly and flies to the far corner of the garden." For example, a teacher asks a question: “What does this fairy tale teach us?” We can answer that she teaches us to be kind and not only strive for good, truth and beauty, but also protect them from all the abominations of the world.
As we can see, there may be a positive review. Garshin (The Tale of the Toad and the Rose, including this shows) is a very sad writer. First of all, he looked very deeply into the essence of life, and there, as you know, tragedy lurks, for none of the people is eternal, and there is still no worthy, effective antidote to the longing for immortality.
If a senior schoolboy, almost an applicant, writes, then he, having already tasted the tragedy of love relationships, can look at the tale from an unexpected angle and say, for example: “Garshin's work on the injustice of unrequited love.”
Toad is a vile evil nasty, but she also loves Rosa! If our student is brave and smart enough, he will fearlessly move on in his thinking. The road will lead him to the fact that now, in our days, “roses” are not at all afraid of “toads,” on the contrary. Beautiful "roses" want to be captured by nasty "money-toads", if only they would provide them with an adequate standard of living.
In other words, one can expand the problematic of the work and saturate the symbols of “toad” and “rose” not with moral content (evil and good) or aesthetic (ugly and beautiful), but also social (rich and poor) or gender (man and woman). For a good review of the essay, it is important to understand what the main theme of “Tales of the Toad and the Rose” is. There are two points: on the one hand, the author’s idea is a confrontation between evil and good, beauty and ugliness, and on the other hand, the reader’s personal awareness of what he understood from the fairy tale. Therefore, you need to carefully familiarize yourself with the work and listen to yourself.
At the same time, it’s worth reading only the full version of Garshin’s tale, because it’s difficult to write something worthwhile in terms of summary. If the reader gets acquainted with the work in full (a tale of only 10 pages), then he will increase his chances of writing an excellent review! Yes, it’s not an easy “Tale of a Toad and a Rose”. Feedback on it should also not be easy.
A kaleidoscope of thoughts by V.M. Garshina
In the creation of V.M. Garshina is not one thought, but their whole kaleidoscope. It is difficult to single out one thing. The tale is very symbolic and full of content. Perhaps the main idea of “Tales of a Toad and a Rose” is that each has his own.
A toad should love a toad, not a flower. In turn, the rose should delight the eyes of people and is in a suitable society for it. The struggle between good and evil or beautiful and ugly is just an illustration for the general disharmony of the world, when someone violates the natural order of things.
Is it possible to say that the work of V.M. Is Garshin somehow connected with Dostoevsky’s famous thesis “Beauty will save the world”? Hard to say. More likely no than yes. After all, Rosa does not save anyone, on the contrary, they save her. Moreover, no matter how beautiful Rose is, her charm is fleeting. The author himself says that the flower has a lifespan of three days. Such beauty is unlikely to save anyone.
The attitude to the fairy tale about the toad and the rose is very ambiguous. Usually, when we talk about fairy tales, something very bright and kind comes up in front of our mind's eye. Of course, we can say that there are not very good traditions in the world. Yes, it is, but now it’s not about them.
So, at V.M. Garshin is nothing bright. At him, as in Andersen's tales, everything is very truthful and vital. On the one hand, it seems that children cannot read such fairy tales until a certain age, because they break a person’s faith in good and bright. And on the other hand, it all depends on the parents choosing their educational method. If they, for example, want their offspring to have no illusions, then V.M. Garshin and Andersen just right for this purpose. Without exerting any pressure on the reader, we hope that he will make the right choice. In the formation of man there are no trifles, everything affects his development, even fairy tales read in childhood.
