Medlar at home. Growing conditions

Many flower growers are engaged in the cultivation of rare and exotic plants, but not everyone knows that in the apartment you can grow such a beautiful tree as medlar. At home, fruits can be obtained not only from lemon, kiwi or pomegranate, but also from this small shrub from the subfamily of apple trees. Its fruits are appreciated for their high content of vitamin C, and besides, they are very tasty. Japanese medlar is widely distributed in Western Europe, Algeria and many other states. Judging by the name, it can be assumed that the plant comes from Japan, but this is not so. The tree only spread there, and its real homeland is China.

Medlar at home is grown very simply. To do this, you need to buy fruits in a supermarket, remove seeds from them and immediately plant them until they have lost germination. You can pre-soak them in a solution of potassium permanganate, but this is not necessary. It is better to plant one seed in a pot, since two plants will appear at once. The soil can be prepared from sheet and turf soil, sand and peat.

Medlar sprouts at home very quickly, and after a month two or even three pairs of real leaves appear in the sprout. It is during this period that it is necessary to determine the future form of the plant. If you prefer the shape of the bush, then you should pinch the medlar, and if you want to get a tree, then the first pinch should be done in six months. This will not affect growth and fertility, only the form will change.

Medlar at home is propagated not only by seeds, but also by cuttings. To do this, chopped branches must be planted in moist soil, and cover with a jar on top. Four weeks later, you can see a young bush. Since medlar is an exotic plant that is not adapted to our climatic conditions, it is necessary to provide it with all conditions close to the natural habitat.

The tree will develop normally, blossom and bear fruit only with sufficient moisture. The soil should never dry out; watering the plant must be with settled or melt water at room temperature. Medlar at home should receive enough moisture from the air. To do this, it needs to be sprayed every other day, and a warm shower should be carried out twice a month. In winter, it is often not worth watering the plant, and so that the moisture does not evaporate, you need to cover the soil with moss.

Bright rooms are what loquat loves so much. The photo of this tree impresses many gardeners: the plant is so beautiful and neat. Its maximum height is 2 m, and it can give a lot of fruits. When a sufficient amount of light gets in, the buds of the medlar will be large, flowering usually occurs in April or early May, and in June you can already enjoy the fruits. If they seem too tart to you, you need to put them in the freezer, then the medlar will become soft and sweet. In spring, daylight hours are not so long, so additional illumination may be necessary for normal flowering. Medlar has a decorative appeal, besides it gives healthy and tasty fruits. For this, it is worth taking care of the plant.
