Zimbru (stadium): location and general information
The main sports arena of the Moldavian state is located in the southern part of Chisinau, in the area of Botanica. Zimbru is a unique stadium, because it is located almost in the courtyard of multi-storey buildings. The city address of the sports complex: 45 Dacia Boulevard.
How many spectators can Zimbru Stadium host? The capacity of the arena is 10.5 thousand people. Fans are seated in four stands. The stadium also has VIP lodges, places for media workers and people with disabilities.
In addition to the main football arena, the sports complex includes two more stadiums, a mini-football pitch, a cottage-type hotel for players, a youth sports school, tennis courts and a medical center.
Zimbru Stadium meets all the requirements for holding international level matches.
The history of the construction of the stadium
Work on the creation of a new sports complex on Dacia Avenue began in 2004. The project of the future facility was developed by the staff of the Ceproserving Institute. The bulk of the work was undertaken by Inconex Com. Other companies, including Moldavian ones, also took part in the construction.
The construction of the sports complex was delayed for 27 months. During the construction, many problems arose, which were not so easy to solve. The marriage of Moldovans' experience in the implementation of such large-scale projects also affected.
Nevertheless, the Zimbru sports arena was nevertheless built. At the end of May 2006, its grand opening was held.
Foreign specialists took an active part in the construction and arrangement of the Chisinau stadium. So, the well-known Swiss company Matomatic laid grass on the field. Spotlights for lighting the arena were made at the German factory Siteco, and Ukrainian experts were engaged in the production of video displays.
Interesting facts about the stadium
- Many residents of nearby houses on Dacia Boulevard were opposed to the construction of this sports complex. The sponsors managed to “persuade” the most active oppositionists only by repairing their apartments.
- On the evening of the opening of the stadium, they played the match of FC Zimbru and the club from Russia Krylia Sovetov. The friendly match ended with the score 1: 1.
- The matches at the Zimbru sports arena can be watched from the balconies and roofs of the nearest residential buildings. However, during international fights, the police do not let people into these houses without a corresponding “residence permit”.
- Zimbru is a stadium (the only one in Moldova) that has its own museum. It is located in an old wooden house.
- It was at this stadium in 2010 that the only concert in the country of the legendary band Scorpions took place. It was attended by about 20 thousand people, but for the whole evening not a single crime was recorded.
- For the soundproofing of the Zimbru Arena, the stadium was covered around the entire perimeter with special soundproof panels of Slovenian production.
