First of all, you need to measure the circumference of the head.
Now we knit a sample of the selected yarn, the selected number of knitting needles. You need to dial 25 loops and knit 10-15 rows with a pattern, which will be connected with a hat. Often they start to knit a product with an elastic band 1 x 1 or 2 x 2. With a selected elastic band we knit a sample and measure it 2 times. First, we apply a ruler to the sample in an unstretched state, then in a stretched state. As a result, we get 2 important indicators:
- knitting density;
- coefficient of elasticity.
For example, in the unstretched position, the sample is 7.5 cm, and in the stretched position - 12 cm.
Then the knitting density is calculated as follows: 25p * 10: 7.5 cm = 33 p. This means that there will be 33 loops in 10 cm of knitted fabric.
The coefficient of elasticity is defined as follows: 7.5: 15 = 1: 1.6.
Loop calculation
The sample is connected, all indicators are defined. So how many loops to dial on a women's hat?
Subtract 1-3 cm from the head circumference indicator. This number must be divided by 10 and multiplied by the knitting density index. For example, the head circumference is 53 cm. So, 53 - 3 * 33: 10 = 165 loops. Now you should check by multiplying by the coefficient of elasticity. As a result, our hat can stretch to 80 cm. That's a lot. Therefore, we can throw a few more centimeters.
So, let's say you need to dial 148 loops. From 45 cm to 72 cm. The elasticity of the product will be less when we make a lapel on the bottom. In other words, the head circumference is somewhere from 48 to 60 cm.

Head height calculation
How many loops to dial on the women's hat we know, and how many rows should be knitted? In other words, what height should the product be? If you want to tie the cap “according to the shape of the head”, you just need to measure the distance from ear to ear and divide this number by 2. Now you should measure the distance from the forehead to the back of the head, and also divide by 2. These indicators should be compared and a larger value selected. Thus, we find out the minimum height of the cap.
Suppose the distance from ear to ear is 28 cm, and from the forehead to the back of the head - 29 cm. Therefore, the minimum height of the cap is 29: 2 = 14.5 cm.
This is the height of the head "in the shape of a head." But it should be remembered: the elasticity of the canvas in the width we are counting on is due to the height. Therefore, we add an additional couple of centimeters in height (tensile). So, 14.5 + 2 = 16.5 cm. If the hat is with a lapel, then 3 cm should be added. Therefore, the height of the hat is 16.5 + 3 = 19.5 cm.
Calculation of decrease
Often during the period of diminution on the knitting needles, not so many loops, as many are typed on the women's hat initially. Therefore, we calculate the number of loops on the knitting needles and calculate the decrease.
Most often, the reduction is performed by six petals. In other words, for 1 row, 6 or 12 loops are reduced. At this point, you should consider how to close the top of the product. Often they pull the top with a working thread, while less than 15 loops should remain on the knitting needles. If you decide to stitch the crown, then you should leave about half of the initial row.
It is necessary to reduce the loops at a height when the area of the parietal tubercles is knitted. The distance from this place to the crown, for example, is 4 cm. Remember, at this moment you should carefully monitor so that the set of rows is not twisted. Otherwise, you have to dissolve the knitting and start all the work again.
We knit with a rubber band 2 x 2 cloth 14 cm high. This is a lapel. In the middle of the gum you can make 2 rows of purl loops that will separate the lapel from the main fabric of the product.
