This city houses one of the most famous "repositories of antiquities" of a railway orientation. Museum of steam locomotives in Novosibirsk has a very impressive size (approximately three kilometers of unique exhibits of trains, wagons and other symbols of this subject).
It contains a significant collection (over 100 exhibits) of steam locomotives, electric locomotives, diesel locomotives and wagons, which mainly operated on the West Siberian Railways. In addition, the Novosibirsk Museum of Railway Engineering. N. A. Akulinin (official name) has in his collection such Soviet brands of cars as Moskvich, GAZ, ZAZ (of different years of production) and several models of tractors, trucks and all-terrain vehicles.
History of creation
In 1996, a significant amount of railway equipment was assembled at the experimental ring of VNIIZHT OJSC. In this regard, the main department of the locomotive economy put forward a proposal regarding the creation of a museum. Subsequently, the collection of various railway exhibits began, and in August 2000 the museum of steam locomotives was officially opened. He was named after the creator and the very first director - Nikolai Akulinin.
The first exhibit of the museum
Immediately near the entrance, a prototype of the Cherepanov brothers steam engine was installed. Yefim and Miron built the first land steamer (the old name for the locomotive) at one of the Nizhny Tagil factories (Vyisky plant). So 1834 was marked by the appearance of the first steam locomotive in the Russian Empire. In addition to the cargo of 3.5 tons, he could carry 40 more passengers.
Unique models of the museum collection
One of such unique exhibits is the Borzig tank engine. It was built in the XIX-XX centuries. in Germany. This model did not have a tender, therefore, fuel and water reserves were stored on the engine itself in special tanks (tanks) located on the sides of the central steam boiler.
Also, a model of a freight locomotive LV-0040 is presented to tourists. It was manufactured at the Voroshilovgrad steam locomotive plant in the 50s. last century.
Museum of steam locomotives in Novosibirsk demonstrates a model of an Er-789 freight steam locomotive. Series E was quite in demand, as a result of which its mass production was carried out. Locomotives were among the frequently ordered models for the urgent replenishment of the fleet. We can say that these locomotives survived three wars in the production stage. Production took place in eight countries of the world, where 32 plants were involved. This model has become the most numerous among domestic locomotives.
As a rule, freight locomotives were painted black, and passenger ones were painted green or blue. They look very old, but they are only about 60-70 years old.
What other exhibits are included in the collection?
Along with the prototypes of steam locomotives and individual wagons, a large amount of railway equipment was assembled there. For example, a very substantial tank designed to transport molten iron.
The museum of steam locomotives also has such a unique exhibit as a 16-axis mixer, with a lifting capacity of 150 tons, created in 1974.
You can see the model of the mechanized railcar TD-5 (a six-seater open self-propelled transport vehicle used for the delivery / transportation of tools, mechanisms, various materials and workers by rail).
Attention tourists are presented with a platform designed for repair and maintenance of the contact network, as well as a pit digger and an icebreaker.
Retro cars as exhibits of the museum collection
There are military jeeps, half-jeeps, ZIS-5. And also the "Dodge WC51", which since 1942 was supplied to the USSR. It is known that in the Red Army they called him “Dodge three quarters” (due to the fact that he had a load capacity of 750 kg).
There is also a white mini-tractor in the collection, manufactured at the Kharkov Tractor Plant.
The Novosibirsk Museum of Steam Locomotives allows you to see GAZ cars:
1. GAZ-51 - a Soviet truck, which was mass produced. Serial production began in 1946, however, the first samples were collected before the Great Patriotic War. The total release totaled about 3.5 million copies of various modifications. Using Soviet drawings, he was assembled in China, and Korea, and in Poland.
2. GAZ-63A - Soviet all-wheel drive truck. It was produced for 20 years (1948-1968).
3. Zil-157 - a car of the Soviet era, having a number of nicknames: "Poltergeist", "Babai", "Seed", "Crocodile", "Zahar", "Benz", "Truman", "Cleaver", "Stupa", "Mormon". And in Bulgaria he was nicknamed "Dzhogan", in Ukraine - "Boar", in Lithuania - "Šiašyakoyis crocodilas". In the Magadan region, Yakutia, Kamchatka and Chukotka, the car in question was called Zurs or Crab. His cabin looked like an iron, so in the northwest it was called - “Iron”. It is also known that among the hunters of the Central Federal District, namely the Ryazan Region, this car, having a unified zero body size (KUNG), acquired the nickname Zenzubel.
These are not the latest exhibits of this museum.
Museum of steam locomotives at Riga Station
It was opened in 2004 and is dedicated to the history of railway technology directly from the Moscow Railway. More often you can hear another name - Museum of steam locomotives on Riga Square.
On the open-air platform, locomotives and steam locomotives of different years of production and different eras are installed. These are ancient representatives of railway equipment, and their modern descendants.
The Locomotive Museum at Riga Station provides its visitors with the opportunity to climb inside certain exhibits and even turn the levers in them; some models have a staircase for the convenience of tourists.
In the adjacent territory of the museum you can see a steam train of very impressive size, which is painted black. He blows smoke and hisses, as he is acting. You can ride on it. Its components are a steam locomotive, which belongs to the E series with a license plate number 774-38, and two modern cars.
Here you can also see locomotives and snowplows. There are also special wagons, for example, ambulance, which was operated during the Great Patriotic War.
