The basics of playing for the spy in TF2

Team Fortress 2 is a multiplayer shooter game released by Valve in 2007. The first part of the game was released in 1996, and was a modification for the popular Quake in those years. But the real success in the series came only with the second part. Due to the dynamic and convenient gameplay, charismatic characters, a variety of tactical decisions and interesting tasks on the battlefield, the game became a real hit and until the release of CS: GO remained the main multiplayer shooter of the company.

Game mechanics

"TF2" is a team shooter where battles take place on different maps between blue and red. The winner is the team that, following the results of several rounds, managed to complete tasks on the battlefield. There are ten possible game modes available in the game, each with different tasks and a different number of rounds to determine the winner. The player can choose one of nine available classes for the game: soldier, demoman, machine gunner, medic, sniper, scout, arsonist, engineer and spy. Classes differ not only in a set of weapons, but also in speed, health and size. The ability to take one class to several players multiplies the possible combinations of the team, which makes each game different from the previous one.

Spy mechanics

A spy is the most unusual class of all nine. Most classes have only three weapons at their disposal, but the TF2's spy weapon kit is a butterfly knife, revolver, invisibility clock, camouflage kit and bug. With the help of disguise, a spy can take the form of a member of an enemy team and penetrate their territory, hours of invisibility provide him with invisibility, bugs turn off and break the buildings of enemy engineers, and a stab in the back instantly kills the enemy. All this makes the spy an extremely dangerous and unpredictable enemy, which at any second can violate the plans of the team of opponents.

ESports

However, despite the strength of the spy in TF2, he is almost not present at eSports competitions. Teams prefer to do without him, or take him as an experiment. Why is that? The fact is that the ability to disguise becomes absolutely useless against the team played, which constantly reports to each other about their whereabouts. Calculating a disguised opponent is not difficult. The same thing happens with his invisibility - seeing that there are one fewer opponents and knowing that a spy was hiding somewhere, professional cybersportsmen cover each other, not giving him a chance to strike. Thus, although a spy is extremely strong in ordinary games, he is weak for e-sports competitions, which does not make him a less interesting class for playing.
