Pneumatic jack: device and advantages

A pneumatic jack is a complex technical device designed to quickly lift any heavy loads. It is mainly used at service stations and car repair shops, but sometimes it can be seen at a construction site. However, this is not surprising, because in both cases there is a need to lift any heavy load. Whether it’s a car or a concrete slab, it doesn’t matter, the pneumatic jack can handle any load. Of course, without exceeding the permissible capacity limits of the manufacturer.

Characteristic

Pneumatic jacks for cars are a flat device, which are based on: a durable polymer material, a support screw, an air duct and a handle. In addition, there are a number of mechanisms inside the device for quickly raising the vehicle.

Principle of operation

The algorithm of this tool is based on the principle of compressed air (less commonly, gas). The stages of operation of the mechanisms are as follows: first, through a special air duct, air enters the system, filling the device’s flat chamber. In this case, a lot of pressure arises inside the mechanism, which expands the rubber cushions of the jack. They then abut the bottom of the car or some other surface, thereby lifting the vehicle up. How then does the car go down? There is nothing complicated here either. By pressing the necessary lever in the system, a special valve is activated, which relieves the pressure from the system. Thus, the car lowers back to the wheels.

Specifications

A pneumatic jack can have very diverse characteristics, depending on the classification and type. Based on this, the level of working pressure that is formed in the system can be from 2 to 9 atmospheres, and the lift height is from 37.5 to 56 centimeters. However, what remains unchanged in them is the same pick-up height (15 centimeters) and low payload. Depending on the model, pneumatic jacks for cars are capable of lifting devices weighing from 1 to 4 tons. But what about the manufacturer’s recommendations that a 4-ton mechanism can be safely used to raise huge truck tractors? After all, do not forget that the laws of physics have not been canceled, and the mass that was erected on the 4 wheels of the car, after lifting the car with the device, falls on the “shoulders” of 3 tires of the same lifting mechanism.

In order to understand what weight the pneumatic car jack is designed for, it is enough to simply divide the mass of the vehicle by the number of wheels that it has. What is coming out? For example, if the tonnage of a 2-axle towing truck is approximately 7.5 tons, then to raise it you need to adjust the pneumatic jack with a load capacity of at least 1.875 tons. Approximately 1850 kilograms per wheel goes out, plus exactly the same amount (possibly with small errors) on the lifting mechanism.
