Kalinin Square, St. Petersburg: photos, how to get

Kalinin Square in St. Petersburg occupies a historically significant, important place. Unusually designed, it is located in the Kalininsky district of St. Petersburg, in a place quite remote from the metro.

Historical reference

After the war, captured Germans condemned for the genocide of the Russian people were shot on the square. The name of the square was given in 1955, at the same time as the installation of a monument in its central part to Mikhail Ivanovich Kalinin, a famous Russian revolutionary, Chairman of the CEC and member of the Politburo. But Kalinin Square received real popular fame after the construction of the Giant movie theater, which at that time was the largest in the city. Now connoisseurs of cultural pastimes often gather there in the Giant Hall concert hall.

Residents of the district hope that one day a metro will be built next to the square. According to the investment project of the future, developed by Smolny transport specialists, the lobby of the Ploshchad Kalinina station can be opened there, at 40 Polyustrovsky Prospekt. There is a demolished house settled more than 10 years ago. The hope does not quench in the hearts of people that at least at the beginning of the construction of the metro, the "house of the collective farmer" will be remembered and demolished, attracting socially unadapted individuals.

So it turns out the shape of the five corners, a popular copy of the intersection at the intersection of Zagorodny Prospekt and the streets of Lomonosov, Rubinstein and Razezhei.

Usyskin Lane, by the way, is named after the famous tester of a stratospheric balloon, in which he died in 1934 during a record flight.
