Ventilation in a private house - approaches to solving the problem

Once upon a time, all houses in Russia were wooden, made of logs, and no plaster was used either inside or outside. This means that the house simply β€œbreathed”, absorbing air from the street and passing it inside. Windows and doors made of wood also did not interfere with natural air exchange. Each village dwelling was attended by a Russian stove, which exhausted exhaust air through a chimney. Thanks to all this, natural ventilation was carried out in a private house.

Even now, if you are interested in building a wooden house with wooden windows and doors, with the obligatory equipping of it with a fireplace or stove, then the problem of ventilation of such a structure simply disappears. In such a house, all processes will occur naturally, as in the old days. It will keep cool on a hot day, and in the cold season, a fireplace or stove will not only heat the room, but also draw stale air into the street. And if we talk about buildings not of timber or logs, equipped with very hermetic window double-glazed windows, then it is worth deciding how ventilation will be provided in a private house.

For example, you can take a cottage, built on frame technology. At such a house, the walls do not breathe at all, since they are tight. That is why ventilation in a private house built using such technology is a special issue. In the case of a very small house, the problem is sometimes solved by installing modern windows equipped with a micro-ventilation system. In addition, you can mount the supply and exhaust ventilation system. She has a very simple principle of operation, while the installation procedure is not particularly difficult. β€œBad” air is forcibly removed from the residential building, and fresh air is pumped to replace it from the street, in the same volume. This is done by introducing special ventilation ducts into the walls and floors . That is why the question of what should be ventilation in a private house should be resolved at the design stage. For a particular room, the principle of ventilation should be determined individually. If you plan to independently build and equip your home, then you should consult with an experienced specialist on issues related to the selection of the optimal system. Building standards suggest that ventilation in a private house can be one of the types: natural, forced or forced-air. And here only a professional is able to choose the appropriate type of ventilation, as well as comply with all norms of air exchange.

The supply and exhaust system has a number of advantages, one of which is considered to be the possibility of using a heat exchanger in it, which does not consume energy and does not require hot water. The ventilation system should be supplemented by a recuperator, which will minimize the percentage of heat loss. If you want to create ventilation of the pool, then it must be equipped with a dehumidifier. If we talk about a ventilation system with a recuperator, it is worth noting that it allows you to save heat even in those cases when the temperature outside is negative, since the air entering the house warms up and only after that is supplied inside. The recuperator can only be used in conjunction with an exhaust ventilation system. Such a system significantly reduces the cost of heating the premises. The system works in a similar way in the summer, but in the opposite direction. So it is possible to reduce the load on the air conditioners, as well as save electricity.

It is important to remember about such an important moment as ventilation of the sewerage in a private house. Such a system will allow not to accumulate various gases and odors in the sewer system, which often leads to negative consequences. Installation of such a system should be carried out after consultation with a specialist.
