Siding is an excellent material that allows you to make your home more beautiful with minimal financial costs, masking existing flaws. Today we will consider how do-it- yourself siding installation is carried out. The instruction is quite simple, and therefore almost any person can perform all the work described below.
The popularity of this material for decoration is explained not only by its relatively low price, but also by its excellent strength and durability. Vinyl siding does not need painting, maintenance and care. In the event of severe contamination, it can be washed with a stream of water from a garden hose.
If you decide to install the siding yourself (the instructions are given below), you need to know that panels up to 6 m long are most suitable for your purpose. However, all calculations should be carried out depending on the size of the sheathed room.
Firstly, you need to carefully determine the amount of material that will go to the wall cladding of your home. We advise you to use special 3D-modeling programs for repairs: this way you will calculate the volume of the cladding you need, accurate to the meter. Please note that even the installation of basement siding with your own hands involves working at a certain height, so take care of the woods or at least a normal staircase in advance.
You will need a tape measure or measuring tape, an ordinary hacksaw and a ruler, as well as a set of carpentry tools. Having prepared yourself, prepare the house: carefully clean all the trees, shrubs and stones that may interfere with your work. If you are lucky enough to have a house with perfectly even walls, then the material can be mounted directly on them. If not, then do not do without installing a special crate. Without it, you can’t do the
installation of siding yourself . The instruction is as follows.
If you decide to place the cladding horizontally, then the battens of the crate should be stuffed on the wall in a vertical position, leaving a gap between them of no more than 0.3-0.4 m. The beams must be pinned up near the door and window openings. Given the characteristic features of our climate, it is best to install siding with insulation. As the latter, you can take ordinary mineral wool, placing it in the cells, which are formed by the intersection of the bars of the crate.
Most of all the hassle happens with the installation of the starting strip, so you should not rush into this matter. Remember that do-it-yourself siding installation (the instructions were described above) should provide for technological expansion of the cladding: for this, a clearance of about 8-10 mm should be left from the end of the building. Because of this, it is not necessary to hammer nails too tightly, leaving small gaps between it and the material. Such a simple measure will allow to avoid deformation of siding under the influence of the environment.
By the way, nails should be driven in only at right angles, because otherwise the panels will not be able to move, expanding and narrowing under the influence of the ambient temperature. It takes no more than a week to cover the middle house.
