Curly roses

Curly roses look great on columns near the walls of the house, arches, on the porch. Such roses bloom profusely throughout the summer.

Curly roses are planted at an angle of 30 °, obliquely to in relation to the supports. Near the walls of the house, curly roses must be planted at some distance so that the water flowing from the roof after the rain does not fall on the roots of plants. In addition, obliquely planted plants are more stable and hold better in the soil. Curly climbing roses are planted so that the grafting area is 10-13 cm below the soil level, that is, somewhat deeper than other species. This method of planting contributes to a better development of the grafted shoot.

Curly roses are pruned in spring, shortening only the tip of a thin shoot. Often gardeners mistakenly prune young shoots, believing that they are wild. In fact, the appearance of these shoots is evidence of self-rejuvenation of the bush. The main pruning is carried out immediately after flowering. Old branches 4-5 years old are removed, cutting them off the soil surface. After pruning, young shoots begin to grow faster, they are not recommended to be cut even in spring. To awaken the buds on young shoots, curly roses are laid in a horizontal or inclined position and high hilling is carried out.

The wicker shape can be grown from some overgrown varieties of spray roses, English roses are great for these purposes. Varieties such as Graham Thomas and Gertrude Jekyll curl to a height of 1.4-1.5 m.

Polyanthus roses are low perennial shrubs. They are very easy to propagate by cuttings, especially in summer. Polyanthus roses from seeds are grown less often. This type of growth reaches a height of no more than 50 cm, plants are very winter-hardy and are leaders among roses in terms of the abundance of flowers. Throughout the summer months, semi-double and double flowers appear on the bush, collected in racemose or corymbose inflorescences. Over the summer, up to 100 inflorescences can bloom on one adult bush, it is only necessary to remove wilted flowers on time. If desired, polyanthus roses can be grown not only in the garden, but also in pots. Polyanthus roses have very tight seeds, so they are sown for the winter in pots for indoor plants. Seeds in this case germinate in spring or summer. Before sowing, they are soaked in water for 2 weeks.
Seedlings of a polyanthus rose, unlike a rose of Canadian selection, are transplanted
for a permanent place according to the scheme 50 * 40 cm. Plants prefer sunny places,
drained, fertile soil. Polyanthus roses go very well with
stunted plants in flower beds. Roses with marigolds, grass, petunia, phlox, stunted asters and pansies look very beautiful. A flower bed will delight the eye, starting in June and until the frosts.

Both curly and polyanthus roses are very sensitive to fertilizing with mineral fertilizers, tillage and regular watering. In autumn, the bushes must be trimmed and covered for the winter. Roses grown from seeds bloom only in the second year. The small flowers of the polyanthus rose have a very fragrant aroma.

Curly roses do not require any special care. With support for growth, they rise higher and higher, forming at the same time many new shoots. In autumn, the tops of the bushes are trimmed, and the roots are insulated. You can grow curly roses, allowing them to climb bushes, barriers and fences.

Roses of Canadian selection bred specifically for the cold climate. They have many advantages, including very beautiful flowers in saturated colors and excellent winter hardiness. Canadian roses bloom in our climate in two waves, the second less abundant. Roses are perfectly cut and do not require winter shelter. After cuttings grow well in the future on their own roots. By purchasing only one Canadian rose plant, you can propagate your favorite variety without harming your wallet.
