How and what is the treatment of wood from rotting?

Wood is an excellent material, but insects and rot can cause irreparable damage to it. Insects, although significantly harmful, can still not be compared in terms of the extent of destruction with putrefactive processes. And therefore, when building buildings from this material, the processing of wood from decay is so important.

rotting wood processing
Keep in mind that rot develops best in a warm and humid environment. Its speed is directly affected by the way the material was prepared before the start of construction.

Therefore, wood processing from decay begins even at the stage of logging. You need to know that the moisture content of a freshly chopped tree trunk varies within 80%, and therefore it must be carefully dried. It is best to use natural weathering for this, the duration of which should be at least one year.

More recently, wood processing from rotting was carried out using a solution of copper sulfate. Our ancestors used tar and tar for the same purpose. In everyday conditions, one can often see how used engine oil is used to prevent the development of rot . This method, although effective, is not suitable for residential premises, and environmental conservation issues play an important role here.

wood processing against decay
All methods can be divided into two large groups. The first includes diffusion methods, when the surface of a tree is treated with special penetrating compounds. In another case, apply surface treatment with paints and polymer compositions, which impede the access of air and moisture to the wood, preventing its decay.

How can we understand that the processing of wood from rotting of the first type is more effective? As a rule, antiseptic pastes are made from an antiseptic, filler and thickener, which gives the substance the necessary degree of viscosity. In particular, for bitumen paste, bitumen is used as such. Antiseptic properties are given to her by a solution of green soap.

Silicate paste is a homogeneous mixture of stone oil, water glass and several fungicidal agents. Note that for the effective action of such compounds, the moisture content of the wood itself is important, which should be within 40%. If this indicator is less, then the diffusion process practically does not go. In this case, wood processing against decay does not bring tangible benefits.

wood treatment
To disinfect a fresh tree, you can use a solution of potassium dichromate on sulfuric acid. The advantage of this method is that it effectively disinfects not only the tree itself, but even the soil around it. This is an excellent tool for processing the lower rims of buildings.

Recently, many new synthetic products have appeared. But you always need to remember that any wood treatment should not only be effective, but also safe for human health. Unfortunately, powerful chemicals, although they can protect a tree from all types of rot for a long time, are often simply dangerous.

Caution should be given to compositions based on zinc and tin salts, since they are quite toxic.
