Of particular popularity today is a cat breed such as the British. Its correct name is “British Shorthair”, but an abbreviated affectionate nickname most fully characterizes pets of this genus.
People are primarily attracted by the pretty appearance of these animals. And in fact, if you look at the breeds of cats with photographs, when you look at the representatives of the "British", the lips themselves are stretched in a smile: they really look like teddy bears. And their dense thick short hair is a business card that most clearly distinguishes them from the species. Another such feature is their color. The British cat breed boasts a wide range of shades of hair. The most popular of them is the so-called "viscous" - light gray with darker stripes, widely known for advertising the eponymous feed, as well as purple, blue, red. Especially rare colors of this breed are golden and ticked golden - there are not too many such cats in our country. But with might and main there are other colors - from plain to tricolor,
tabby (striped), two-tone or color-point (the so-called "Siamese"). All of them are attractive in their own way and find their fans.
The cat breed British has a very calm and balanced character. In this, they completely repeat the stiffness and ceremoniality of the representatives of the nation that gave the name to these animals. One sometimes gets the feeling that if the “shaving girls” could speak, they would have demanded tea at 5 pm, as is customary at Foggy Albion. They are very balanced and sometimes even slow. Therefore, if you want a nimble pet that will joyfully run towards you when you return home and turn the whole house in its games, this is not your cat. The British are very kind by nature, but not too tame and sociable. They can sleep peacefully on their knees or next to you, but do not expect too much affection from them.
In content, the breed of cats Briton is quite simple. Of the features of caring for them, it is worth noting the mandatory maintenance of wool in good condition by combing and regular washing with special shampoos. It should also be remembered that this breed, like the Persians and exotics, has nearby lacrimal ducts due to a short nose, which means that their eyes require careful care. They must be washed with special lotions or a weak solution of chamomile and cleaned of impurities. British food should be chosen from two options: either fully provide them with natural food, including boiled chicken meat and vegetables, as well as dairy products, or choose a good factory food, since many brands have specially developed species for this breed.
And finally: in the ads for the sale of kittens you can often find the phrase "British breed lop-eared cat." Photos of such animals are similar to the classic representatives of British Shorthair, with the exception of funny hanging ears. These are the so-called Scottish fold cats, or Scottish folds, as they are called felinologists. They have common roots, with proper breeding among the Scots, one of the parents will certainly be a representative of the British breed, but still many international organizations distinguish them in a separate form. So we will not confuse them with each other.
