The roofing system is the most complex element of the building. Modern projects suggest the possibility of organizing the roof of the most original design. In turn, the use of innovative roofing materials allows you to create the most comfortable conditions for being indoors.
Design Features
The roofing system assumes the presence of the following elements:
- The bearing part - girders, rafters, beams, other details that are subject to increased loads created by the weight of the outer coating, as well as precipitation.
- The outer part is the front shell, which acts as a protection for the internal structure from the effects of wind and moisture.
Types of roofing systems
Before embarking on the construction, it is extremely important to determine the appropriate option for the design of the roof. Typically, a roofing system is developed during the design of a structure and needs accurate calculations.
Currently, the following types of roof construction are distinguished:
- Flat - traditionally used in the construction of multi-story, high-rise buildings, as well as single-storey storage facilities with concrete floors.
- Pitched - characteristic of private construction. They are made in the form of slopes extending from the central rafter in opposite directions. The installation of roofing systems here is most often carried out using structural elements made of wood, metal profile.
- Sling - are presented in the form of a slope, which departs from the main wall to the supporting structure of lower height on the opposite side of the building.
- Hip - have an extremely attractive design, because they are presented in the form of trapezoidal upper planes and triangular lower ones. Such a roofing system is also called a four-pitched roof.
- Attic - are individual variations of the pitched roof of a complicated design.
- Multi-plucked are the most complex projects. They are realized mainly during the construction of the most original objects. They are distinguished by the presence of many separate planes and angles.

Types of external coatings
Despite the variety of materials, at present, when covering the roof, the preference is most often given to roll, bulk, membrane and sheet solutions.
The roofing system with a roll coating involves the use of bituminous polymer or fiberglass substrates with a reinforcing layer. This option looks the most rational when organizing flat roofs.
As for the bulk roof, such projects are realized thanks to the application of special mastics on a solid foundation with the subsequent alignment of the outer layer. After hardening, the coating acquires a sufficiently strong, tight, but at the same time elastic structure.
The option with a membrane roof is applicable for sloped roofs. As a coating, polymer materials are used that have high strength and insulating properties.
Sheet materials are well known to the domestic consumer. This is primarily ondulin, slate, decking, galvanized metal and metal.
Finally
As you can see, in modern construction various projects for the organization of the roof are being implemented. To determine the most successful solution, it is enough to weigh the pros and cons, based on the nature of the structure, its purpose, the breadth of the budget.
