In games about demons or where they are present, usually there is also their native language, having invented which, the developers emphasize that the characters who speak it, in fact, have a very large lore layer behind their backs and a whole culture.
"What language do demons speak?" - the player thinks and picks up entire alphabets from the official documents of the developers. If you are looking for their laziness, and you want to profit from “secret” knowledge about the languages of creatures from the underworld, then you have come to the address. Below we will analyze the three most famous demon languages in video games and find out how they differ.
DOTA 2 demonic language
There are not many demons in the DOTA 2 game, compared to how many characters there are, but even they have their own language specially invented by the developers. Representatives of the demon race are such heroes as ShadowDemon, Doom, ShadowFiend and Terrorblade. They all speak the same language. This makes it clear that they are from one dimension and have some kind of connection among themselves, but it’s hard to name them comrades.

From this language there are only extracts meaning some phrases, and the demonic language and alphabet are similar to human Latin. The phrase “I, mine, me” is perfectly expressed in the language, because demons are insanely selfish and, if they do anything, it is only for their own benefit. Usually they also glorify the place from which they came - the Abyss. So, the phrase Ozh Arkosh omoz has the translation "I am the Lord of darkness" and all in that spirit. Also interesting is the fact that during the game, depending on which side the demons are on and whether they are at war with each other, their phrases change, from invigorating to humiliating and threatening, respectively.
Daedric - The language of the demons in the universe of The Elder Scrolls
In order to better understand this type of communication between demons from the world of Ancient Scrolls, it is necessary to dig in the depths of years when, in principle, these Daedra were created, and what they are. It all started when Anu and Padomai, Light and Darkness, respectively, decided to fight and find out who the Universe belongs to and establish a single ruler of everything. During the battle, they were so wounded that Daedra were created from the blood of Padomai, and stars formed from the blood of Anu. Mixed, these two bloods created Aedra - the opposite of demons.

As you can see, creatures from dark blood did not nourish humanity, and their hearts were full of darkness and greed, when Aedra, on the contrary, took care of everything and even created a mortal world that they could manage and help their children - people. Almost all Aedra fell, giving their power to people, but the Daedra, on the contrary, became stronger. They became some kind of gods worshiped by people of all Tamriel, and, of course, learned their special demonic language.
Princes among the demons
Princes immediately appeared among the demons. They were the most cruel, the most cunning or the craziest of all, which means they were worthy to manage their own Plan, a dimension where they could do whatever they wanted. People, finding and analyzing daedric letters, christened them forbidden. Only the darkest spells and forbidden knowledge were written in demonic language, and people began to suppress any appearance of it in their society.
Although there were those who worshiped them altogether, asked for their help and sacrifices, built altars for them, on which various exclamations were carved in their glory. For example, on the altar of Merunes Dagon, Prince of Destruction, the following is written: “The weak will be weeded out, the timid will be destroyed, and the strong will lie at my feet and ask for mercy.” It’s immediately clear why normal people try to avoid the dark princes and have nothing to do with them.
Daedric language - runes or letters?
Among the players, the question arises as to why the words are represented in the Daedric language. Is it runes or a certain alphabet, and they write whole sentences to it? There are several reasons on this subject, why it is precisely the “language” and not the “daedric runes”.
The runes, as such, have straight and without bends symbols, and also do not have horizontal lines so that the stone or tree does not crack when writing. The letters of the Daedric language, on the contrary, have very beautiful bends, dots, and look just like letters than any runic symbols or drawings that the ancient peoples painted.
What language do demons speak and how did people of the mainland understand it
Various scientists undertook to answer this question in the universe of Ancient Scrolls. At the time of the last part of The Elder Scrolls V, the inhabitants of the mainland had only translated one book that Daedra had given them. So the books of the Mysterium of Zarks were discovered and translated, which gave instructions on building an altar for Prince Dagon, and the scientists who deciphered it founded the cult of Mythical Dawn, taking the name of the book for its name. There is a second book, Ogma Infinum, written by the sorcerer Xarxes, who was bestowed with the power of knowledge by Hermeus Mora, the prince of Daedra, who is responsible for the mind and secret skills described in Ogma Infinum. Anyone who reads the Daedric texts in this book will become smarter and more cunning than before. At the time of Skyrim, this book was missing and its location is unknown.
Eredan (Eredik) - a language from the WorldofWarcraft universe
Eredan is the demonic language of the beings of the Burning Legion, invading the territory of Azeroth three times already during the entire existence of this continent.
It was precisely at their direction that such cataclysms occurred as the invasion of the orcs into the lands of the Alliance, the deception of Arthas and the creation of the Lich King, as well as all the wars, one way or another tied to these demons. I would also like to note that Azeroth is the only world that has not fallen under the raids of the Legion and is still rebuffing it.
The Burning Legion and the origin of their tongue
The Legion is a myriad army of races, from higher to lower beings, and for obvious reasons they need a method of communication during their raids. They have a so-called “Eredan” from the name of the Eredar race, who sacrificed their language for the benefit of the Burning Legion by joining it.
The goal of the Lords of the Legion is to return the universe to its original appearance, to chaos, although in practice, they simply destroy everyone and everything in the area, absorbing their energy. The Burning Legion responsible for the death and oblivion of thousands of races and cultures, it is a bastion of madness, hatred and thirst for the suffering of all living things.
More about Eredan
This language lives its own life and is known even in Azeroth. It is studied by various occultists and translators of the demonic language. The peculiarity of this language is that once in the head of the being who is teaching it, it absorbs it from the inside, destroys all values and all morality, turning it into a servant of Darkness. Because of this, the language in Azeroth is officially banned and knowledge about it is destroyed in order to avoid new wars and cataclysms. The demon language in Russian can be heard during a meeting with demonic creatures during events such as Legion or The Burning Crusade.
In the end, I would like to say that the developers of all these games have worked hard, as they created a world in which a bunch of characters live. But not only that, for each character they came up with their own language. Each language has its own rules and exceptions, its own alphabet, its own vocabulary and its own history of creation. And all this is done for us - the players, in order to satisfy our desires.
