Hyacinth is a bulbous perennial plant with leaves, similar to a belt, and strongly smelling flowers - bells collected in inflorescences like a brush. Coloring is extremely diverse: from snow-white to ink-violet. Hyacinths are terry and non-terry. And the latter are much larger.

Hyacinth in Greek means β€œrain flower”. There is a legend that tells about the hero of myths of Greece Hyacinth. He was a favorite of Apollo, and this flower is named after him. One of the most common species is oriental hyacinth. It grows in Greece, Lebanon, southern Turkey, Syria, where it blooms in early spring. In the south of Russia, blue hyacinth with white and blue flowers is quite common and in large quantities . There is also another not so famous type of hyacinth - Roman Belvalia. In the wild, it is found in northern Italy, southern France, Algeria.

Hyacinths according to flowering time are divided into early, middle and late. The time gap is very small, about 10 days. Usually blue and white hyacinths begin to bloom, and dark red and yellow complete the flowering. During flowering, they are fed with full fertilizers, and after - phosphorus-potassium with the addition of trace elements.

In the open ground, hyacinth in the garden blooms in early spring - in April, May. After the plant fades and the leaves turn yellow by one third, you can start digging the bulbs. Then they are cleaned, dried and sorted. Before planting, the bulbs are treated with fungicide. To grow hyacinth in a pot, take the largest bulbs. Powerful flowers are made from them. Although you can take smaller bulbs, but they will bloom later. If you make out a large pot, in which several bulbs will fit, then it is better to take them in different colors. Then the composition will look more interesting. It can also be supplemented with various small-bulb plants. These are muscari, hinodox, snowdrops, irises of the reticulate, and bluebells. A hyacinth in a pot surrounded by these plants will look like a king surrounded by a retinue.

The plant requires a large amount of light. During flowering, hyacinth requires a temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius. The lower the temperature, the longer the plant blooms. It is advisable to keep hyacinth in the apartment away from batteries and drafts. Water the plant during distillation should be very moderate so that the roots do not rot. When planting bulbs in pots, you can use any floral slightly acidic soil.

Bulbs are planted so that 10% of its size is above the surface of the earth. Planting begins in late August, depending on when you want to receive flowering plants. If you plant one onion in a pot, then it can be very small, as the distillation occurs due to bulb stocks. In order for the plant to bloom by a certain date, it must undergo a cold treatment. During this treatment, the plant is completely rooted and the central growth point is strengthened. Cold processing occurs at a temperature of 7 -10 degrees Celsius in the dark. The rooting time lasts 11 weeks, after which you can begin to distill.

If the regime of cold processing was not sustained, then the plant will bloom, but much later. After distillation, it is advisable to plant the bulb in the garden, and then it will bloom next year. This bulb can be used for distillation only after 3 years, when it is fully restored.

We must not forget that when flowering, hyacinth in a pot emits a very strong aroma that allergy sufferers and children may not like. Therefore, at night, it is advisable to take the plant out onto the balcony or kitchen.

A hyacinth in a pot will be a wonderful gift and decoration of your apartment.
